On April 1, with the completion of pouring the final batch of concrete for the foundation of No. 4 high-temperature water spherical tank, it marked the full completion of concrete pouring for the heat storage tank foundations of Unit 2 of the Huaneng Jintan Salt Cavern Compressed Air Energy Storage Power Generation Phase II Project undertaken by Shandong Electric Power Construction No. 1 Company, pressing the "fast-forward button" for civil works handover and project construction.
It is reported that Unit 2 of the project has a total of four 3,500-cubic-meter high-temperature water spherical tanks and four 3,500-cubic-meter low-temperature water spherical tanks, with a design pressure of 1.8 MPa. Each tank can store 3,500 tons of demineralized water. Their foundations are annular mass concrete structures with an outer diameter of 23 meters, and the construction process control requirements are strict.
To ensure construction quality and milestone targets, the Huaneng Jintan project team of Shandong Electric Power Construction No. 1 Company planned ahead, worked overtime, and organized meticulously. They completed the preparation, review, and approval of construction plans and strengthened training of construction personnel on professional work standards as well as safety, technical, and quality disclosures. During the process, from foundation pit excavation, rebar processing and tying, formwork installation, concrete pouring, to temperature measurement and curing, every procedure was executed strictly in accordance with drawings and plan specifications, with sign-holding acceptance inspections, on-site supervision, and witnessing carried out for each procedure. A cumulative total of more than 3,500 cubic meters of concrete was poured. Through BIM modeling and visualized disclosures, specially designed and customized circular formwork was used: 30 formwork panels for the outer ring wall and 20 panels for the inner ring wall were sufficient to form the ring, greatly improving formwork installation efficiency and ensuring the forming quality of the spherical tank annular foundations. This ensured safe, high-quality, and efficient project progress and was recognized by the owner and the supervision unit.
The Huaneng Jintan Salt Cavern Compressed Air Energy Storage Power Generation Phase II Project plans to build two 350 MW non-supplementary-fired compressed air energy storage units, with a total salt cavern volume of 1.2 million cubic meters, storing energy for 8 hours and generating power for 4 hours. A single charge can store 2.8 million kWh of electricity, with an estimated 330 charge-discharge cycles per year, equivalent to saving 270,000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 520,000 tons. As a key project in Jiangsu Province, the project has broken through bottleneck technology barriers and will develop and install the world's most advanced air turbines and compressor units, achieving 100% localization of core equipment. It is currently the world's compressed air energy storage power station with the largest single-unit power, largest total capacity, and highest comprehensive efficiency.
