The Longsheng Bridge spanning the Dongjiang River has a planned total length of about 1,170 meters, with a main bridge width of 44 meters and a design of eight lanes in both directions. In addition, supporting projects will be built at the same time, including the Yunshan East Road interchange, as well as Renmin Road and Jiangdong No. 1 Road, two major urban arterial roads, connecting with Huizhou Avenue and the eastern section of the Third Ring Road.
With the first pile foundation driven into the Dongjiang River in July last year, construction of the main bridge of the Longsheng Bridge, a key livelihood and municipal project of the city, officially began. A reporter recently learned from the Municipal Public Utilities Administration that as of May 23, the Longsheng Bridge and connecting road projects are progressing steadily, with cumulative investment of about 365 million yuan, accounting for 22.1% of the total investment, and efforts are being made to basically complete the project in the first half of next year.

Machines roaring, welding sparks flying, vehicles shuttling back and forth... A reporter recently visited the construction site of the main bridge of the Longsheng Bridge. Looking around, the closely connected bridge piers are spectacular, the steel structure trestles on both banks have been built to the middle of the Dongjiang River, and workers are busy working on the trestles. Worker Lao Chen was concentrating on welding a bridge pier and was soon soaked with sweat. "Citizens all hope the Longsheng Bridge will be completed and opened to traffic as soon as possible to ease congestion on the Dongjiang Bridge. We need to work overtime to speed up progress and ensure the project proceeds smoothly," Lao Chen said.
"The project has completed an investment of 60.55 million yuan this year, and bridge construction is currently being fully advanced," said a person in charge of the project. Pile foundation work is 90% complete, with a total of 246 piles completed, of which the pile foundations for the main bridge and the north bank approach bridge are basically complete; 23 pile caps have been poured, and 17 bridge piers have been built.
In addition, the Yunshan East Road interchange has completed construction of the north-side N-line bridge, D-line bridge, roads, and sidewalks, and was opened to traffic in mid-April; construction on the south side is now underway, with 29 pile foundations completed, and box girder construction is planned to begin in August. According to the introduction, after the Yunshan East Road interchange is completed, the Longsheng Bridge will achieve seamless connection with surrounding roads such as Yunshan East Road and Huimin Avenue. Meanwhile, Jiangdong No. 1 Road and Renmin Road in the Shuikou area have had some construction access roads and roadbeds built, and some drainage and road works are planned to be completed before December.

At present, 17 bridge piers of the Longsheng Bridge have been built.
Significance
To become the central axis of the city's eastward expansion
"During rush hours, the Dongjiang Bridge is quite congested, and going via the CITIC Bridge is too far," said Ms. Huang, who lives in Shuikou in the urban area and works at an enterprise in Jiangbei. She very much looks forward to the early completion and opening of the Longsheng Bridge.
In fact, Ms. Huang's expectation also reflects the needs of many citizens. Once completed, the Longsheng Bridge will greatly ease traffic congestion on the Dongjiang Bridge and the problem of residents on both banks finding it "difficult to cross the river."
In addition, according to the plan, the Longsheng Bridge is also one of the important measures for Huizhou to implement its urban construction strategy of "advancing south, expanding north, and extending east and west." As a rapid east-west traffic corridor in Huicheng, the bridge connects the southern Jiangbei area, western Shuikou area, and Dongjiang New City area, undertakes traffic links among groups along the route, and at the same time connects Jiangbei, Jiangdong, and Dongjiang Science and Technology City. It will become the central axis of Huicheng District's eastward urban expansion.
