On August 25, with the successful completion of concrete pouring for the last section of Pile No. 12 at Pier No. 161 of the Luoyang Yellow River Rail-Road Bridge on the Jiaozuo-Pingdingshan Railway, the total number of bored piles constructed for the entire bridge officially surpassed the 2,000 mark, marking an important milestone in the bridge's foundation construction and laying a solid foundation for the steady advancement of subsequent substructure and main works.

As a controlling project of the entire Jiaozuo-Pingdingshan Railway, the Luoyang Yellow River Rail-Road Bridge is designed with a total of 3,334 bored piles. It is invested in and constructed by Henan Intercity Railway Co., Ltd., managed under general contracting by China Railway Design Corporation, and built by China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group. Surpassing the 2,000-pile milestone means that two-thirds of the designed total of bored piles for the entire bridge has been completed. Since the first bored pile was successfully drilled on July 2, 2025, the project construction team has anchored itself to the schedule targets, directly confronted complex geological challenges, steadily advanced all processes of foundation construction, and maintained a stable drilling pace of nearly 5 piles per day on average. Even under unfavorable geological conditions such as ultra-thick pebble layers, the team has still achieved efficient progress in foundation construction.

The geological conditions in the bridge construction area are complex. The ultra-thick pebble layer is widely distributed, with large pebble particle sizes and a dense, hard structure, making it the core difficulty constraining bored pile construction. During drilling through the pebble layer, problems such as aggravated drilling tool wear, unstable and collapsing hole walls, and low drilling efficiency are highly likely to occur, putting dual pressure on hole-forming quality and construction progress. In response to this construction pain point, the project department carried out geological assessment and process demonstration in advance, optimized the drilling construction plan in a targeted manner, adopted a staged drilling process combined with high-quality mud slurry for wall protection to effectively reduce the risk of hole collapse, and arranged technical personnel to be on full-time site supervision, adjusting drilling parameters and mud slurry indicators in real time according to the state of drill cuttings returned, thereby minimizing the construction obstacles brought by complex strata and achieving a dual improvement in pile-forming quality and construction efficiency.

A relevant person in charge introduced that the smooth achievement of the 2,000 bored pile milestone is an important milestone in the bridge construction process. Next, the project department will continue to maintain its tackling momentum, strive to complete the remaining bored pile construction tasks, create sufficient working faces for the subsequent construction of substructure such as pile caps and pier shafts, and promote the steady acceleration of project construction.
