On July 30, all steel arch ribs of the main bridge of the Longmen Double-Track Bridge in Wushan County were fully assembled and successfully closed, marking a key and breakthrough progress for this municipal-level major project, with overall construction progress significantly ahead of schedule and notable construction results. Once completed, the project will effectively relieve traffic bottlenecks in Wushan's urban area, improve the layout of river crossings, facilitate residents' daily travel, and provide solid transportation support for the county's urban expansion and high-quality development of its cultural and tourism industry.

Wang Ziqiang, project manager of the Longmen Double-Track Bridge, introduced that the hoisting of the main arch of the main bridge began on May 24, 2026, and after two months and five days, all 24 segment hoisting operations have now been completed. Today, the hoisting of the main arch closure segment was successfully completed, officially closing the main arch of the main bridge.

It is understood that the existing Longmen Bridge in Wushan has been in service for nearly 20 years and is a key transportation hub connecting the old urban area, Jiangdong New City, and the Wushan Yangtze River Bridge. As urban development accelerates and cultural and tourism passenger flows continue to grow, the original two-lane bidirectional capacity has become seriously insufficient, with prominent traffic congestion during holidays. To address shortcomings in transportation and people's livelihood, Wushan launched the new Longmen Double-Track Bridge project. The project is adjacent to the Longmen Bridge and crosses the Daning River. The bridge has a total length of 937.5 meters, including a main bridge of 173 meters and approach bridges of 764.5 meters. It is built to the standard of a bidirectional four-lane urban trunk road with a design speed of 40 kilometers per hour.

Since construction began in July 2023, in the face of multiple construction challenges such as frequent water level fluctuations in the Three Gorges Reservoir area, complex geological conditions, and proximity to existing traffic routes, the contractor, the project department of Chongqing Construction Engineering Third Construction Co., Ltd., has carried out scientific research, systematic coordination, and targeted efforts. It optimized and improved the construction plan through multiple on-site surveys; seized the Yangtze River's dry season window to complete key works such as underwater pile foundations and pile caps in a concentrated manner; innovatively adopted techniques such as slope reinforcement and advanced grouting to strictly control construction safety risks; used intelligent measurement and control technology to ensure millimeter-level precision; and strictly implemented Yangtze River ecological protection requirements, achieving zero safety accidents and zero construction waste discharged into the river, thus safeguarding the bottom lines of safety and ecology.

"The completion of all steel arch rib assembly for the main bridge this time is a core milestone in the project's construction." Wang Ziqiang introduced that the main arch of the Longmen Double-Track Bridge's main bridge consists of 24 segments in total and adopts an instantaneous closure device. After the hoisting of the 24 segments was completed, a 60-centimeter gap was reserved in the middle of the main bridge for installing the instantaneous closure device. Construction workers adjusted it according to temperature changes and then installed and closed it.

As of July 30, all construction processes of the project have been steadily implemented and advanced in parallel at multiple points, with encouraging overall progress: more than 70 percent of the core main works has been completed, 80 percent of the slope works, 80 percent of the approach bridge substructure, and 60 percent of the approach bridge superstructure. On the basis of the smooth completion of the core processes of the main bridge, ancillary bridge deck works have also been interspersed ahead of schedule, with all work faces operating efficiently and advancing in an orderly manner, and overall construction progress steadily accelerating with good momentum.

"At present, the core control works of the project—the steel arch rib assembly of the main bridge—have been successfully completed, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent deck system construction of the main bridge," Wang Ziqiang said. Next, concrete pouring inside the main arch will be carried out, with a construction period expected to last one month. After the concrete pouring is completed, the installation of the main bridge's suspenders and longitudinal and transverse deck beams, as well as bridge deck construction, will be carried out.
