Recently, it was learned from the Nantong Innovation District that the construction of the Southeast University Nantong Campus has entered the formal construction stage. Pile foundation work for Phase I has begun; the living complex is undergoing earthwork excavation, foundation pit support, and dewatering, while site clearing and temporary office and living area supporting facilities are being constructed concurrently. In addition, design work for each section is progressing as planned.

The Southeast University Nantong Campus is located in Chongchuan District, Nantong, bounded by Tongfu North Road to the east, Tonghu Avenue to the north, Chongchuan Road to the south, and Guanshan Road to the west. The site covers a total area of approximately 1,055 mu, with total building floor area of about 522,000 m², of which approximately 458,000 m² is above ground and 64,000 m² is underground. The construction period is approximately 36 months.

It is understood that the Southeast University Nantong Campus is a high-level, modern campus jointly built by Southeast University and the Nantong Municipal People's Government. The campus will focus on marine characteristics, integrate advantageous disciplinary resources, and create a distinctive, internationally oriented first-class new campus offering integrated bachelor's, master's, and doctoral education.

According to the national list of regular higher education institutions, among the 10 regular universities currently in Nantong, 7 are junior colleges and 3 are undergraduate institutions; none is a "Double First-Class" university. The groundbreaking of the Southeast University Nantong Campus marks that Nantong will welcome its first 985 university.

At present, Southeast University has five campuses. Three of them—Sipailou Campus, Jiulonghu Campus, and Dingjiaqiao Campus—are located in Nanjing, Jiangsu, while the Wuxi Campus and Suzhou Campus are located in Wuxi and Suzhou, respectively. The Nantong Campus will become Southeast University's sixth campus.

On March 29 of this year, the construction launch meeting for the Southeast University Nantong Campus and the first 2026 municipal-university joint meeting were held in Nantong. The meeting proposed that, closely following the principle of "leveraging Southeast University's strengths to meet Nantong's needs," the university will adhere to the educational positioning of "emerging, internationalized, high-end, and modern" and build to high standards a modern future campus that integrates Southeast University's cultural heritage with Nantong's river-and-sea characteristics. Nantong will channel more resources into "investing in people," advance campus construction with high quality and efficiency, and fully support the university in giving full play to its scientific and educational resource advantages and in creating a favorable environment for scientific research and academic exchange.

Once the campus is completed and operational, it will further improve the region's full-cycle education layout and build a complete education ecosystem from preschool education to higher education. By continuously deepening university-local government cooperation, it will also provide Nantong with a steady supply of higher education talent, strengthen local capacity for originating scientific and technological innovation, accelerate the deep integration of the "four chains," and make greater contributions to the province's efforts to build an industrial science and technology innovation center with global influence and to integrate into the Shanghai (Yangtze River Delta) international science and technology innovation center.
