Recently, a key semiconductor industry project—the Jiufengshan Semiconductor Manufacturing Base, undertaken by China Railway Wuhan Electrification Bureau—officially entered the substantive construction phase, pressing the "fast-forward" button for the capacity expansion and quality upgrading of the compound semiconductor industry in Wuhan Optics Valley.

As the rotary drilling rig started smoothly and operated with precision, the first pile of the Jiufengshan Semiconductor Manufacturing Base Project (Section I) was successfully drilled. Located in the core science and innovation area south of Keji 1st Road, east of Suhu Road and west of Wufeng Road in the Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone, the project is a key layout for Optics Valley to improve its semiconductor industry ecosystem and address the shortage of mass-production carriers. Section I covers two R&D office buildings of 12 and 15 stories and one 15-story shift dormitory building, with a total floor area of about 120,000 square meters. Focusing on industrial supporting facility upgrades and the creation of science and innovation carriers, the project will, once completed, effectively fill the regional gap in specialized semiconductor mass-production carriers, improve the full-chain industrial layout of compound semiconductors, and comprehensively empower Optics Valley's industrial upgrading and the improvement of its overall science and innovation capacity.

To ensure a high-standard, high-quality start of the project, the project department planned ahead and made meticulous arrangements, gathering core technical backbones to deepen the optimization of construction plans and repeatedly discussing the pile foundation construction process, technical standards and key and difficult control points. At the same time, it strictly implemented safety production control requirements and fully carried out pre-job safety education and technical briefings for construction personnel, making comprehensive preparations in all aspects including construction plan approval, technical parameter calibration, staffing and equipment commissioning, so as to press responsibilities down layer by layer and refine control measures, ensuring that the entire pile foundation construction process is safe, standardized, scientific, orderly and efficiently advanced.

It is understood that the Jiufengshan Semiconductor Manufacturing Base Project is based on Optics Valley's semiconductor industry development layout, relies on the strong scientific research commercialization advantages of the Jiufengshan Laboratory, and precisely aligns with the upgrading and development trend of China's compound semiconductor industry. Positioned as the core mass-production carrier block of the compound semiconductor industry innovation district, the project will build high-standard, high-cleanliness and specialized modern semiconductor production plants and improve the industrial production, R&D and living support systems.

Once the project is completed and put into operation, it will successfully close the full industrial loop of "R&D—pilot testing—mass production", completely address the region's shortfall in large-scale compound semiconductor mass-production capacity, accelerate the commercialization of scientific research results, promote the clustered development and leapfrog upgrading of upstream and downstream industries, help Wuhan Optics Valley build a leading domestic compound semiconductor industry highland, and inject strong momentum into the high-quality development of the region's high-end intelligent manufacturing industry.
