On July 1 local time, construction began on the Salvador–Itaparica Sea Crossing Bridge (the "Salvador Sea Crossing Bridge") in Bahia State, Brazil, undertaken by a Chinese enterprise. Brazilian President Lula, Bahia Governor Rodrigues, Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Zhu Qingqiao, and representatives of investors and builders attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

Under the gaze of all, the Shanghai Jintai SD25A rotary drilling rig under LiuGong stood tall at the construction site and successfully drilled the project's first test pile, becoming a striking calling card of Chinese equipment in this mega-project.

The Salvador Sea Crossing Bridge is one of Brazil's largest infrastructure projects. The bridge will span the Bay of All Saints in Bahia State, connecting the state capital Salvador with Itaparica Island to its west, with a total length of 46.8 kilometers, including a 12.4-kilometer dual-carriageway, six-lane sea crossing bridge, a 4.2-kilometer road connection system in Salvador, and a 30.2-kilometer road system on Itaparica Island. Once completed, the project will become the longest sea crossing bridge in Latin America, fundamentally transforming the regional logistics landscape, strengthening regional connectivity, and driving new investment in tourism, industry, commerce, and logistics.
