Recently, it was learned from the Nantong Innovation District that the construction of the Southeast University Nantong Campus has entered the formal construction stage. Pile foundation construction for the Phase I project has begun; the residential cluster is undergoing earthwork excavation, foundation pit support, and dewatering construction, while site clearing and temporary office and living area supporting facilities are being constructed simultaneously. In addition, design work for each section is progressing as planned.

The Southeast University Nantong Campus is located in Chongchuan District, Nantong City, east of Tongfu North Road, north of Tonghu Avenue, south of Chongchuan Road, and west of Guanshan Road. It covers a total site area of approximately 1,055 mu, with a total building area of approximately 522,000 m², including approximately 458,000 m² above ground and approximately 64,000 m² underground. The construction period is approximately 36 months.

It is understood that the Southeast University Nantong Campus is a high-level modern campus jointly built by Southeast University and the Nantong Municipal People's Government. The campus will focus on marine characteristics, integrate advantageous disciplinary resources, and build a distinctive, world-class new campus offering integrated bachelor's, master's, and doctoral education.

According to the national list of regular higher education institutions, among the 10 regular universities currently in Nantong, 7 are junior colleges and 3 are undergraduate institutions, with no "Double First-Class" universities. The start of construction on the Southeast University Nantong Campus marks that Nantong will welcome its first 985 university.

At present, Southeast University has five campuses. Among them, the Sipailou Campus, Jiulonghu Campus, and Dingjiaqiao Campus are all located in Nanjing, Jiangsu; the Wuxi Campus and Suzhou Campus are located in Wuxi and Suzhou, respectively. The Nantong Campus will become the sixth campus of Southeast University.

On March 29 this year, the Construction Launch Meeting for the Southeast University Nantong Campus and the First 2026 Municipal-University Joint Meeting were held in Nantong. The meeting proposed that, closely focusing on "what Southeast University excels at and what Nantong needs," the university will adhere to the educational positioning of "emerging, internationalized, high-end, and modernized" and build a modern future campus that integrates Southeast University's cultural heritage with Nantong's river-and-sea characteristics to high standards. Nantong will promote more resources to "invest in people," advance campus construction with high quality and efficiency, and fully support the university in giving full play to its scientific and educational resource advantages and creating a favorable environment for scientific research, academic exchanges, and other activities.

After the campus is completed and put into use, it will further improve the region's full-cycle education layout and build a complete education ecosystem from preschool education to higher education. By continuously deepening university-local cooperation, it will also continuously supply higher education talent to Nantong, strengthen local capacity for original scientific and technological innovation, accelerate the deep integration of the "four chains," and make greater contributions to the province's construction of an industrial science and technology innovation center with global influence and its integration into the Shanghai (Yangtze River Delta) International Science and Technology Innovation Center.
