The roar of the rotary drilling rig's engine broke the quiet of the site as the massive mechanical arm slowly rotated and the drill bit steadily descended. The first bored pile was officially drilled, and demolition of the old bridge started simultaneously. This marks the Jiangsu Avenue Bridge Reconstruction Project officially entering the main construction phase and injects new momentum into the advancement of the Xuwei Port Area Channel Regulation Project.

The Xuwei Port Area Channel is the northernmost "horizontal" of the "two verticals and five horizontals" in Jiangsu Province's trunk waterway network, the final section for the full connection of the Xu-Su-Lian corridor, and a key waterway section for our city's land-sea coordination and sea-river intermodal transport. The channel starts at the junction of Shaoxiang River and Shaoxiang Branch River, flows through Shaoxiang Branch River and Nachao River, and ends at the Fudui River estuary, with a regulation length of approximately 22.448 kilometers.

The Jiangsu Avenue Bridge Reconstruction Project, now under construction, is a key node of the bridge works of the Xuwei Port Area Channel Regulation Project. The project involves a road reconstruction with a total length of 1.458 kilometers, classified as a first-class highway, adding six ramps with a total length of approximately 1.779 kilometers. The total bridge length is 488 meters, of which the main bridge adopts a 136-meter simply supported steel truss, and the approach bridges adopt 27-meter and 30-meter prestressed concrete composite box girders and 55-meter simply supported steel-concrete composite girders, with a total bridge width of 42.1 meters. The new bridge can fully meet the navigable clearance requirements of a Class II waterway, completely resolving the navigation bottleneck of the original bridge.

"The main construction content of this project includes soft foundation treatment, pile foundations, pile caps, pier columns, bent caps, and box girder erection. We will strictly follow the established schedule, scientifically organize construction resources, focus on advancing key node tasks such as old bridge demolition, soft foundation treatment, and pile foundations, and make meticulous arrangements and fight according to plan to ensure the project progresses on schedule," said Gao Ruifeng, on-site manager of the contractor China Construction Eighth Engineering Division. He stated that during construction they will adhere to the quality bottom line, strictly observe the safety red line, strictly control every process, standardize on-site management, and achieve zero safety accidents and zero quality defects.
