In the early hours of April 7, the construction site of Section 2 of the Bengbu-Hefei reconstruction and expansion project of the G3 Beijing-Taipei Expressway was brightly lit. As the last batch of concrete was successfully poured into place, the underwater base slab sealing concrete pouring for the steel cofferdam of the north bank main pier cap of the Huaihe River Grand Bridge was successfully completed, marking a key breakthrough in the bridge's core control project.

The Huaihe River Grand Bridge is the "choke point" project of the Beijing-Taipei Expressway reconstruction and expansion project. The north bank main pier is located within the Huaihe River channel and is affected by multiple factors such as hydrology, geology, and navigation, making construction difficult and safety risks high. Underwater base slab sealing is the core prerequisite procedure for the main pier cap construction, requiring the creation of a stable dry construction environment underwater, which directly determines the safety and durability of the main pier structure.

To ensure foolproof construction, the project team optimized the construction plan in advance, refined technical briefings, and strictly controlled key links such as steel cofferdam lowering, dredging, and concrete mix proportions. They coordinated multiple pump trucks and mixer trucks for 24-hour uninterrupted operations, overcoming challenges such as poor visibility during nighttime construction and fluctuating river currents, and completed the base slab sealing task efficiently through full-process refined management and control.

The smooth achievement of this milestone marks the bridge construction's formal transition from underwater pile foundation work to above-water main structure construction. Once the Bengbu section reconstruction and expansion project of the G3 Beijing-Taipei Expressway is completed, it will significantly enhance traffic capacity in northern Anhui, strengthen Bengbu's position as a transportation hub and central city in the Huaihe River Ecological Economic Belt, and inject strong momentum into high-quality regional economic development.
