To promote the deep integration of architecture and culture, enhance the humanistic connotation of architectural design, and advance academic research and technological innovation, the inaugural meeting of the Architecture and Culture Professional Committee of the Shandong Civil Engineering and Architecture Society was successfully held in Jinan on December 20.

　　At the inauguration ceremony held during the conference, Li Dangsheng, head of the preparatory group and director of the Architectural Design Research Institute of Shandong Provincial Architectural Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd., reported on the committee's preparatory work, and Ding Xia, deputy secretary-general of the Shandong Civil Engineering and Architecture Society, read out the "Reply of the Shandong Civil Engineering and Architecture Society on Approving the Establishment of the Architecture and Culture Professional Committee." At the meeting, the members of the first committee were elected, appointment certificates were issued, and an unveiling ceremony was held.

　　Ma Mingzhu, chairwoman of the professional committee, spoke on behalf of the first committee. She stated that the establishment of the Architecture and Culture Professional Committee of the Shandong Civil Engineering and Architecture Society marks a solid step forward in promoting cultural empowerment and innovative development of the construction industry, and also builds a brand-new platform for academic exchange and industry service. She expressed confidence that with everyone's joint efforts, the committee will be built into a new high ground for academic exchange, a new platform for industry collaboration, and a new model of cultural empowerment.

　　Song Yizhong, chairman of the Shandong Civil Engineering and Architecture Society, stated that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the fields of architecture and culture have developed rapidly, and it is necessary to further promote the deep integration of the two and use advanced technologies to advance the inheritance and innovation of urban and rural construction culture. Song Yizhong put forward important expectations for the committee's future development: first, to deeply explore the intrinsic connection between architecture and culture, promote their organic integration, and make full use of modern technological means to advance the inheritance and innovation of urban and rural construction culture; second, to focus on innovation and protection, and inject new vitality into sustainable urban development and rural revitalization.

　　Guo Lei, a fourth-level researcher of the Building Energy Conservation and Science and Technology Division of the Shandong Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, stated that the just-concluded Central Economic Work Conference proposed to "lead the development of new quality productive forces with scientific and technological innovation and build a modern industrial system." He said that the establishment of the Architecture and Culture Professional Committee is an important measure to give play to the role of "serving the country, society, the people, and the industry," and is of great significance for inheriting the historical context of architecture, promoting the deep integration of architecture and culture, and enhancing both the cultural connotation and humanistic spirit of architecture. 　　At the event, Hou Zhaohui, chief architect of Shandong Provincial Architectural Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. and a master of engineering survey and design of Shandong Province, delivered a special lecture on the theme "Confucian Style in Architecture: The Cultural and Regional Nature of Architecture," and Wang Jinyan, director of the Department of Architecture of the School of Civil Engineering and Water Conservancy of Shandong University, delivered a special lecture on the theme "Culture and the Human Dream of Architecture."
