In recent days, in Tietang Village, Xuanwei Town, Majiang County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province, vehicles loaded with concrete have been driving along the designated route into the dam foundation pit, where the concrete pours out as machinery and workers coordinate closely.

January is the coldest time of the year in Guizhou, yet the construction site is bustling with activity and the builders are full of drive. As one of the controlling hub projects under the national 14th Five-Year Plan for Water Security, the Xuanwei Reservoir, invested in and built by Guizhou Water Investment Group, has reached a key milestone at the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan period: the reservoir dam foundation has successfully passed acceptance, and the first pour of concrete for the dam foundation cushion layer has begun, marking the official entry of the reservoir's main works into the filling construction stage.

Looking back at 2025, as one of the large water conservancy projects under construction in Guizhou, the Xuanwei Reservoir made remarkable progress: on January 13, the headworks hub project broke ground; on September 25, river closure was successfully achieved... with multiple milestone tasks completed smoothly, construction has shifted into high gear.

The construction of the Xuanwei Reservoir not only fills the gap of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture having no large reservoir, but also completes the final piece of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government's strategic plan that every city and prefecture should have a large reservoir.

A joint meeting system for the Xuanwei Reservoir construction was established, with the dedicated task force focusing on key links such as resettlement and land use pre-approval, and more than 60 special coordination meetings were convened... Since the preliminary work of the Xuanwei Reservoir began in 2015, under the leadership of Guizhou Water Investment Group, the prefecture- and county-level governments of Qiandongnan and all relevant departments have cooperated fully, and the survey and design units have carried out repeated verification, laying a solid foundation for the smooth implementation of the project.

The special study on the uniqueness and irreplaceability of the project for flood control, as well as efforts to implement the opinions and suggestions raised in the environmental impact assessment of the Yuanjiang River Basin Plan, have greatly accelerated the implementation of the preliminary work.
