On January 13, pile foundation excavation officially began for the north main pier of the Nanjinguan Yangtze River Bridge.

“The north main pier adopts a separated pile cap with a group pile foundation, with 16 bored cast-in-place piles of 3.4 meters in diameter under each pile cap.”

The Nanjinguan Yangtze River Bridge officially began construction on June 28, 2025, and is a controlling project of the Yichang West Expressway. The bridge has a main span of 1,200 meters and a deck width of 42.6 meters, making it the widest steel truss suspension bridge over the Yangtze River at present; its north main tower is 190 meters high, and the height difference between the bridge deck and the river surface reaches 270 meters, setting a new record for bridge deck height over the Yangtze River. As Hubei Province's first bridge-tourism integration project, the bridge adopts a double-deck design, with an expressway on the upper deck and a planned slow-traffic system and tourism sightseeing facilities on the lower deck.

The Yichang West Expressway starts in Xiaoxita Subdistrict, Yiling District, and ends in Gaojiayan Town, Changyang, adopting a two-way six-lane design with a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour. After the project is completed and opened to traffic, it will connect with the Shanghai-Chengdu, Shanghai-Chongqing, and Jiangnan Dam-crossing expressways, transforming Yichang's central urban expressway ring from a “C” shape into an “O” shape and forming an intercity express corridor. It will provide strong support for improving the comprehensive transportation system of the Three Gorges, serving the construction of national strategic projects, and helping Yichang build a national comprehensive transportation hub.
