On December 27, the 2025 Academic Annual Meeting of the Shandong Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, themed "Frontiers in Mechanics and Engineering Technology Innovation," was held in Qingdao. More than 140 experts, scholars, industry elites, and young talents in the field of mechanics from 38 universities and research institutes inside and outside the province gathered to share the latest achievements, discuss technical pathways, and jointly chart industrial blueprints around "bottleneck" challenges such as rockburst, salt rock energy storage, neural networks, and magnetoelectric conversion, injecting new momentum into the high-quality development of mechanics research through a high-level, high-density, high-cohesion "brainstorm."

The conference was jointly hosted by the Shandong Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and Shandong University of Science and Technology, and co-organized by the College of Energy and Mining Engineering of Shandong University of Science and Technology, the College of Pipeline and Civil Engineering of China University of Petroleum (East China), the School of Science of Qingdao University of Technology, the College of Safety and Environmental Engineering of Shandong University of Science and Technology, the Shandong Key Laboratory of Intelligent Prevention and Control of Deep Mine Dynamic Disasters, and the National Key Laboratory of Open-Pit Coal Mine Disaster Prevention and Ecological Protection. Liu Mingyong, Deputy Party Secretary of Shandong University of Science and Technology, Zhou Shenjie, Chairman of the Shandong Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and Tan Yunliang, Vice Chairman of the Shandong Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

The main venue of the conference invited Professor Tan Yunliang of Shandong University of Science and Technology, Professor Li Liping of Shandong University, Researcher Ma Hongling of the Wuhan Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Liu Jianlin of China University of Petroleum (East China), Professor Zhang Qiang of Shandong University of Science and Technology, Professor Kong Liang of Qingdao University of Technology, Researcher Shi Xilin of the Wuhan Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Peng Zhilong of Beijing Institute of Technology, Professor Yang Yongfei of China University of Petroleum (East China), Professor Wang Shaowei of Shandong University, Professor Li Jianguang of Qingdao University of Science and Technology, and Professor Zhao Tongbin of Shandong University of Science and Technology to deliver invited keynote reports respectively. The 12 reports were closely linked and full of highlights, each "carrying its own traffic," and during the Q&A sessions the microphone was repeatedly "grabbed" and the schedule extended. "This is not a 'show,' but a 'collective display of strength' by rock mechanics oriented toward major national engineering projects," said Li Xiaojing, Vice Chairman of the Academic Committee. "Writing papers deep into mines, applying algorithms at tunnel faces, and engraving models into salt rock caverns—that is what truly 'chisels' mechanics into practice."

The conference set up three thematic sub-venues: "Frontiers in Intelligent Materials and Interdisciplinary Mechanics," "Frontiers in Major Engineering Safety and Disaster Mechanics," and "Graduate Academic Reports," with a total of 22 young scholars and 22 graduate students presenting reports at the sub-venues. Participating scholars and graduate students conducted intensive and in-depth presentations and exchanges on the latest progress, key technical challenges, and future development directions in their respective research fields, scattering sparks of thought across Qingdao's winter and igniting the innovation engine for the next five years of mechanics research.
