The expansion project (Phase I) of the Haikou Baishamen Wastewater Treatment Plant has recently been officially put into operation.

As a key livelihood project of Hainan Province and a landmark project in the field of ecological and environmental protection, the Phase I expansion project of the Baishamen Wastewater Treatment Plant has a designed daily treatment capacity of 80,000 tons and adopts the advanced process of "pre-treatment + AAO biological tank + advanced treatment." It undertakes the collection and treatment of domestic sewage and industrial wastewater in Haikou, significantly reducing the total discharge of regional water pollutants. This seaside garden-style wastewater treatment plant, which combines "ecology" and "environmental protection," has, since its highly attractive launch, installed a "powerful engine" for Haikou's water environment governance. Its high-quality environmental protection services cover an urban area of 96 square kilometers, benefiting nearly one million citizens. It is of great significance for improving regional water environment quality and promoting sustainable ecological development, and has been widely praised by people from all walks of life.

As the largest wastewater treatment infrastructure in Hainan Province, since the start of construction, the construction team has consistently upheld the development philosophy of "having what others do not have, and being superior to others where they are equal." Facing multiple challenges such as tight schedules, heavy tasks, and frequent typhoon weather, they strengthened scientific management, optimized the plant layout, built new core wastewater treatment structures such as sedimentation tanks and biological reaction tanks, systematically improved wastewater treatment capacity, and completed the Phase I expansion project construction task with high quality.

Testing has shown that after the project was put into operation, all indicators of effluent water quality are superior to the national Class A discharge standard, with key indicators such as chemical oxygen demand and ammonia nitrogen meeting higher environmental protection requirements, achieving a dual breakthrough in treatment scale and operational efficiency. In particular, the newly built plant area has broken the public's traditional perception of wastewater treatment facilities, allowing tree-lined roads and modern treatment facilities to complement each other. It has strongly promoted the construction of Hainan's ecological civilization and played a key role in improving the water environment quality of Haikou's urban areas, optimizing the layout of urban ecological space, and enhancing the quality of the living environment.
