On September 18 local time, a completion ceremony was held for the Basnagoda Reservoir Project in Sri Lanka, undertaken by PowerChina. Qi Zhenhong, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka; Vijitha Herath, Sri Lanka's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism; Anura Karunatilaka, Minister of Urban Development, Construction and Housing; and representatives from the project owner, the Sri Lanka Irrigation Department and the Water Supply and Drainage Board, attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Qi Zhenhong spoke highly of the project's completion, saying that it has added another milestone to China-Sri Lanka cooperation on major livelihood infrastructure.

Ajith, Director General of the Irrigation Department, highly praised PowerChina's contract performance capability. He said the reservoir project achieved "zero safety accidents and zero quality problems" throughout, and that every detail—from compaction control during dam body filling to precise commissioning of the spillway gates—demonstrated PowerChina's professionalism, and he looked forward to more cooperation with PowerChina in the future.

During construction, the PowerChina project team overcame numerous challenges. All members worked together and tackled difficulties in succession, always keeping in mind the commitment to "quenching the thirst of livelihoods and safeguarding the peace of the river basin," and ultimately brought the project to successful completion.

Located in the Gampaha District of Sri Lanka, the project mainly involved the design and construction of a reservoir with a capacity of about 3 million cubic meters, as well as a dam, sluice gates and a spillway. As a "livelihood hub" project in the Gampaha District, it can meet the domestic, irrigation and industrial water needs of about 250,000 residents, and also plays an important role in retaining floodwater during the flood season and protecting downstream villages and farmland.

The smooth completion of the reservoir project demonstrates PowerChina's professionalism and sense of responsibility. PowerChina will take this as an opportunity to continue deepening its presence in Sri Lanka's key livelihood sectors such as power and water, and to contribute more PowerChina strength to deepening China-Sri Lanka cooperation and advancing the Belt and Road Initiative.
