Recently, the cavern and road works for the preparation phase of the Fujian Zhangping Pumped Storage Power Station project, undertaken by Sinohydro Bureau 16 Co., Ltd., officially commenced construction, marking the project's entry into the substantive construction stage and laying the foundation for subsequent construction.

The cavern and road works during the preparation phase are foundational supporting works for the power station construction. The scope mainly includes facilities such as the ventilation and safety tunnel, the access traffic tunnel, the connecting road between the upper and lower reservoirs, the access road to the powerhouse, and the powerhouse drainage tunnel. Among them, the ventilation and safety tunnel serves as a necessary prerequisite for the construction of the main powerhouse, and its construction progress directly affects the overall schedule; the access traffic tunnel undertakes the main transportation tasks during the subsequent construction of the main works and is of great significance for ensuring the efficient entry of materials and equipment.

The Fujian Zhangping Pumped Storage Power Station is located in Chishui Town and Shuangyang Town, Zhangping City, Fujian Province. The upper reservoir is located in Weicun Natural Village, Huangshan Village, Chishui Town, Zhangping City, and the lower reservoir is located in Toucun Natural Village, Zhongcun Village, Shuangyang Town, Zhangping City. The total installed capacity is 1200 MW (4×300 MW), and it is a Class I large (1) type project. The hub works of the power station mainly consist of the upper reservoir, water conveyance system, underground powerhouse system, lower reservoir, and ground switch station, among other structures. The main permanent structures are designed as Grade 1 structures.

After completion, the Fujian Zhangping Pumped Storage Power Station will further enhance the peak-shaving capacity of the Fujian power grid and undertake tasks such as peak shaving, valley filling, energy storage, frequency regulation, phase modulation, and emergency reserve for the power system.
