On September 12, the main works of the Yunnan Fumin Pumped-Storage Power Station officially began construction. This is another major milestone for the project following the breakthrough of the station's first tunnel 101 days ahead of schedule on August 21, marking the entry of the Yunnan Fumin Pumped-Storage Power Station into the full-scale construction phase.

As the core and critical works of the station, the start of construction on the main and auxiliary powerhouse marks the project's formal entry into the main construction phase, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent installation of electromechanical equipment and the on-schedule commissioning of generating units. The main and auxiliary powerhouse, constructed by Sinohydro Bureau 14 Co., Ltd., is the core hub for energy conversion and dispatch at the station. The powerhouse cavern has excavation dimensions of 168 m (length) × 25.5 m (width) × 58 m (height).

During construction of the station's ventilation and safety tunnel, the project department, through refined on-site management, strictly controlled the safety, quality and schedule requirements of each construction process, earning the "Smooth Blasting Excavation" model project honor awarded by the owner, with the tunnel breakthrough achieved 101 days ahead of schedule. After the start of the main works, the project team will continue to adhere to the model-led approach, guided by high-standard craft models, and strictly standardize construction procedures. Through full-process refined control and quantitative quality assessment, the team will ensure excellence in every aspect, including smooth blasting of caverns and standardized anchor-and-shotcrete support construction, striving to build a premium project with a safe structure that stands up to scrutiny.

The Fumin Pumped-Storage Power Station is one of the key projects implemented during Yunnan Province's 14th Five-Year Plan period and is the first pumped-storage power station project in Yunnan to receive approval. Located in Kuanzhuang Town, Fumin County, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, the station has a total installed capacity of 1.4 million kilowatts. Once completed, it will undertake tasks in the system such as peak shaving, valley filling, energy storage, frequency regulation, phase modulation and emergency accident reserve.
