Xu Chong's team from the National Institute of Natural Hazards, Ministry of Emergency Management, and the Key Laboratory of Compound and Chained Natural Hazards Dynamics, Ministry of Emergency ManagementAfter years of sustained research, the team has systematically accumulated more than 200 rainfall events and a total of approximately 500,000 rainfall-triggered landslides, forming a global rainfall-induced landslide database with independent intellectual property rights (For details, see:Rainfall-triggered geological hazard data service). This database has significant scientific and social value. It not only provides key data support for revealing the disaster-pregnant mechanisms, evolutionary characteristics, and disaster chain response mechanisms of rainfall-induced landslides in different regions, but also lays the foundation for the delineation of geological hazard-prone areas, risk assessment, rapid emergency response, and the formulation of resilience recovery strategies. At the same time, relying on cross-regional and cross-temporal research and analysis, it helps promote innovation in rainfall-induced landslide prediction and early warning technologies, further enhance geological hazard prevention and mitigation capabilities, and support the achievement of safer and more sustainable development goals. At present, the database has been widely used in important scientific research and operational tasks in multiple fields such as emergency management, electric power, and transportation, playing a core supporting role.

Recently, five typical rainfall events in the database, including the rainfall in Luhe and Jiexi Counties, Guangdong, on August 27, 2018; the rainfall in Longchuan County, Guangdong, on June 10, 2019; the rainfall in Huaiji County, Guangdong, on June 6, 2020; the rainfall in Shaoguan, Guangdong, on April 20, 2024; and the rainfall in Zixing, Hunan, on July 26, 2024. The rainfall-induced landslide databases corresponding to these five rainfall events include approximately 40,000 data records and have been successfully transformed and applied at the National Disaster Reduction Center, demonstrating the application value of relevant scientific research achievements in serving the major needs of national disaster prevention and mitigation. Through this cooperation, it is expected to provide technical support for enhancing China's capabilities in monitoring, assessing, and early warning of rainfall-induced landslide disaster chains, and to provide reference for scientifically formulating risk prevention and control and emergency response plans. At the same time, the establishment of a multi-period, cross-regional rainfall-induced landslide database also lays a data foundation for cross-departmental and cross-regional comprehensive disaster prevention and mitigation research, helps promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into operational and engineering applications for disaster reduction and emergency response, further improves the scientific and technological support system for geological hazard prevention and control in China, and is of positive significance for enhancing disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities and safeguarding people's lives and property.
