The Civil Engineering Lecture Series is Here

On the morning of July 4, 2025, the 115th session of the "Civil Engineering Lecture Series" hosted by the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Wenzhou University was successfully held in Room 7A302. This session specially invited Professor Mei Guoxiong, a renowned scholar in the field of geotechnical engineering and a doctoral supervisor at the School of Civil Engineering of Wuhan University, to deliver an academic report titled "Reflections on Several Basic Concepts of Soil Mechanics." The lecture was chaired by Dean Guo Lin of the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

Professor Mei Guoxiong conducted an in-depth discussion on the deep understanding of the basic concepts of soil mechanics, the scientific and artistic nature of soil mechanics, and the methods of research goal setting and team building. He pointed out that soil mechanics, as one of the core foundations of civil engineering, is not only a rigorous science but also possesses unique artistic qualities, and that research work should balance academic depth with practical application.

In his report, starting from theoretical heights and practical experience, Professor Mei systematically elaborated on the determination of research team goals and the methodological issues in the research process, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and goal management, which resonated widely with and sparked lively interaction among the teachers and students present. During the Q&A session, Professor Mei provided detailed answers one by one to the students' questions on research methods in soil mechanics, research team building, and other topics, creating a strong academic atmosphere on site.

After the lecture, Dean Guo Lin held an in-depth discussion with the students attending the lecture on the research frontiers of soil mechanics and the development trends of the discipline. He encouraged the students to actively integrate into team research and to enhance their own research literacy and academic innovation capabilities.

Professor Mei Guoxiong has long been engaged in research and teaching in the field of geotechnical engineering, has led a number of key national research projects, published 93 SCI papers, and holds 11 authorized patents, enjoying a high reputation in the geotechnical engineering community. This lecture not only enriched the faculty and students' understanding of the frontiers of soil mechanics but also provided new ideas for academic exchange and research cooperation at the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Wenzhou University.

In the future, the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Wenzhou University will continue, through the "Civil Engineering Lecture Series" activities, to bring in more high-level scholars, promote academic exchange and disciplinary development, and help the university's civil engineering discipline reach new heights.
