Professor of Tongji University (Honorary Chair Professor), Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He currently serves as Director of the State Key Laboratory of Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering at Tongji University, and concurrently as Chairman of the Data Standards Committee of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Executive Chairman of the Chinese National Group of the International Society for Rock Mechanics, and Chairman of the China Industry-University-Research Collaboration Innovation Center for Smart Infrastructure under the China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Promotion Association, among other positions.

He founded the discipline direction of civil information engineering, created the digital empowerment paradigm of data acquisition-transmission-processing-expression-analysis-service over the full life cycle of infrastructure, and developed the Infrastructure Smart Service System (iS3); he is a leading figure in digital underground space and engineering. He co-created the three-dimensional GZZ strength criterion for rock masses, which has been recommended by the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM); he established a design analysis model for shield tunnels and the TSI evaluation method for service performance, which have been adopted by national and industry standards. He founded the high-level academic journal Underground Space (CAS Zone 1), has been continuously listed by Elsevier as a Highly Cited Chinese Researcher in civil engineering and geological engineering, served as editor-in-chief of the Civil Information Engineering branch of the third edition of the Encyclopedia of China (Civil Engineering), and has received academic awards including the National Science and Technology Progress Award of China, the Humboldt Research Award of Germany, and the Pian Xuehuang International Academic Contribution Award.

Distinguished Professor and doctoral supervisor at Tongji University. Shanghai Leading Talent and Chief Scientist of the National Key R&D Program. He currently serves as Director of the Key Laboratory of Performance Evolution and Control for Engineering Structures of the Ministry of Education, and concurrently as a member of the International Scientific Committee on the Analysis and Restoration of Structures of Architectural Heritage, Chairman of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) China Chapter, Chairman of the RILEM China Chapter, Vice Chairman of the National Engineering Professional Degree Graduate Education Steering Committee, and Vice President of the China Civil Engineering Society, among other positions. He is mainly engaged in scientific research and teaching in the evolution and control of structural performance. In the past five years, he has led 8 important scientific research projects, including National Key R&D Program projects, Key Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Major International Cooperation Projects; he has won 2 First Prizes of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award and 1 First Prize of the Shanghai Natural Science Award. He has won three First Prizes and one Second Prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award, and was named a National High-level Talent Special Support Program Teaching Master in 2024.

He currently serves as a member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the China Democratic League, and a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress; he previously served as a member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
