From June 16 to 20, 2025, the European Rock Mechanics Congress (EUROCK 2025), hosted by the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (ISRM), was grandly held in Trondheim, Norway. The Chinese delegation led by Professor He Manchao, President of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME), Chairman of the ISRM Chinese National Group, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, achieved fruitful results. Among them, the research achievement "Test System for Complex Mechanical Response of Rock" by the team of Researcher Zhou Hui, a council member of the Society, won the 2025 Technical Invention Award (the only achievement to receive this category of award this year; first completer: Zhou Hui).

Focusing on the technical challenges of rock mechanics response testing under deep high stress and high water pressure, the research team on multi-field coupling effects in rock mass engineering at the Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has carried out 15 years of scientific research and achieved a series of breakthrough results: they invented new technologies and key equipment for fine mechanical testing of rock under complex stress conditions, realized fine mechanical testing of typical complex stress paths and stress states of deep rock masses, and solved the technical challenges of shear mechanical properties and mechanisms of rock under stress principal axis rotation and tension-shear conditions; they invented new technologies and key equipment for testing the shear mechanical response of structural planes under complex conditions, realized reasonable test simulation of complex stress states and loading-unloading conditions of deep surrounding rock, and formed a multi-scale innovative testing technology system from rock shear → joint fissure shear → fault creep slip; they invented new technologies and a series of key equipment for fine visualization testing of rock fluid-solid coupling under high stress and high water pressure, realized high-precision testing of macroscopic coupling characteristics and fine visualization measurement of mesoscopic mechanisms, and solved key technical challenges such as the long-term disconnect between macroscopic laws and mesoscopic mechanisms in experimental research on rock fluid-solid coupling. The related technologies and equipment have been promoted to Tongji University, Shandong University, Chongqing University, and many other well-known universities and research institutes at home and abroad, and have been applied to research on key rock mechanics problems in more than 40 national key projects in the fields of water conservancy and hydropower, transportation, mining, and nuclear power.
