In the lecture,Derek Elsworthsystematically explained that the key hazard of seismicity induced by subsurface fluid activity lies in its impact on formation permeability. He pointed out that effectively mitigating risks requires an in-depth understanding of core controlling factors such as fault strength and frictional stability, and presented the experimental models and translational outcomes of his team's research as applied to major engineering projects in Sichuan, China, and the United States.
