Recently, the Huzhu Beishan Extra-Long Tunnel, a key control project of the Jiaxi Highway project jointly invested in and constructed by Sinohydro Bureau 15 and Sinohydro Bureau 4, was successfully holed through along its entire alignment, marking the smooth double-line breakthrough of Qinghai Province's longest highway tunnel and laying a solid foundation for the full opening of the highway.

The Huzhu Beishan Extra-Long Tunnel has a total length of 11.17 km, starting at Yuanpugou in Beishan, Huzhu Tu Autonomous County, Haidong City, Qinghai Province, and ending at Baimu Gorge Mouth. It is a key project in the western region under the national Belt and Road Initiative currently advocated by the state. Once open to traffic, the journey through Huzhu Beishan is expected to take only 10 minutes.

The area traversed by the Qinghai Huzhu Beishan Extra-Long Tunnel features high altitude, low temperatures and complex geological conditions, with unfavorable geology such as faults, fracture zones and weak, deformable surrounding rock, making construction extremely difficult. Drawing on domestic and international experience in extra-long tunnel construction, the project management team continuously optimized the construction plan. Following the principles of "advance detection, advance pipe umbrella support, short advance per round, weak blasting, strong support, early sealing and frequent measurement," and adopting advanced techniques and equipment, the team solved construction challenges such as ventilation and smoke exhaust, surrounding rock deformation and reverse-slope drainage, advancing the work gradually while ensuring project quality, safety and environmental protection. The completion of the full-line excavation task is a major milestone objective.

During project construction, a number of innovative technologies and management measures were adopted, such as TSP advanced geological forecasting, geophysical drilling, monitoring and measurement and other advanced prediction methods and pre-reinforcement measures, as well as an independently innovated automatic monitoring and early-warning system for tunnel safety step distance, full tunnel signal coverage, and a safety management system for tunnel construction personnel. These not only ensured tunnel construction safety and improved construction efficiency, but also accumulated valuable experience for Sinohydro Bureau 15 in tunnel construction in cold, high-altitude regions.
