Recently, the 400 MW wind power project at Hongliuquan in Yumen, Jiuquan Iron and Steel Group, constructed by PowerChina Chengdu Engineering Corporation under an EPC general contract, has achieved full-capacity grid-connected power generation, which will inject strong momentum into the regional energy structure transformation and the construction of wind and solar power bases in desert, Gobi and arid areas.

The project is located at the western end of the Hexi Corridor, where wind and sand rage all year round and the temperature difference between day and night exceeds 30°C. At the same time, there is a large amount of underlying granite with a compressive strength of 82.3 MPa in the wind turbine foundation pits. The complex geological conditions and extreme climate pose severe challenges to construction. During the project construction, the project team, with high quality and high standards, set a record of an average of 1.4 days per foundation for wind turbine foundation construction, successfully achieving full-capacity grid-connected power generation.

The Hongliuquan wind power project is one of the first batch of national large-scale wind and solar power base projects in desert, Gobi and arid areas. The project has a total installed capacity of 400 MW and installs 64 wind turbines with a single-unit capacity of 6.25 MW. As a key new energy project in Gansu Province, after full operation, the project can achieve an average annual on-grid electricity of 1.15 billion kWh and reduce carbon emissions by about 957,000 tons per year.
