On April 28, the mobilization meeting for the comprehensive construction of the main works of the Xiong'an Storage Reservoir of the South-to-North Water Diversion Middle Route was successfully held in Xushui District, Baoding City, Hebei Province.

The Xiong'an Storage Reservoir project on the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion is the first storage reservoir project built on the Middle Route. The main construction content includes the upper storage reservoir, the lower storage reservoir, the connection works between the lower storage reservoir and the Middle Route main canal, external access roads, and other supporting works. Among these, the section contracted by the Sinohydro Bureau 5 Co., Ltd. is the lower storage reservoir and connection works of the Xiong'an Storage Reservoir project, with a planned construction period of 60 months. The main construction content includes slope support for Phase I of the lower storage reservoir area, temporary rock bench slope support, anti-seepage curtain grouting, concrete construction for karst cave treatment, cable trenches, etc.; construction of the connecting open channel and pumping station, etc.; building decoration; installation of metal structure equipment and hydraulic machinery equipment for the pumping station; procurement and installation of electrical, communication, fire protection, HVAC, and water supply and drainage equipment; procurement and installation of grounding and lighting equipment, etc.; soil and water conservation works within the section's construction area; environmental protection measures during construction; the concrete production system and other temporary construction works, etc. (including diversion and flood control during construction).

The main task of the Xiong'an Storage Reservoir project is to optimize the water supply allocation of the Middle Route project for Xiong'an New Area, meet the normal and stable water supply needs of Xiong'an New Area, and ensure emergency water supply for the New Area during shutdowns of the main canal for maintenance and during water supply interruptions caused by emergencies. It is the "source of water," "aggregate warehouse," and power supply "energy station" of Xiong'an New Area, and is of great significance for ensuring the construction of Xiong'an New Area; at the same time, it also delivers comprehensive benefits such as the construction of a pumped-storage power station, comprehensive utilization of excavated spoil, and mine restoration.
