Recently, the Chongqing section of the Jinshang-Hubei ±800 kV ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission project, in which Hubei Engineering Company participated in construction, has been fully connected, which will provide solid support for the economical and efficient operation of Central China.

The Jinshang-Hubei ±800 kV UHVDC transmission project is a key project under the national "West-to-East Power Transmission" strategic deployment, and is currently the world's highest-altitude UHVDC transmission project. It is also the country's first pure clean-energy cross-regional direct current transmission channel featuring large-capacity hydro-solar complementarity.

As the first UHVDC project to enter the hinterland of the Sichuan-Tibet Plateau, the Jinshang-Hubei ±800 kV UHVDC transmission project reaches a maximum altitude of 4,800 meters along its route. It starts at the Bangguo Converter Station in Gaiyu Town, Baiyu County, Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, and ends at the Hubei Converter Station in Mingshan Township, Daye City, Hubei Province. The line has a total length of approximately 1,784 kilometers and passes through the three provinces (municipalities) of Sichuan, Chongqing, and Hubei.

The project is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in 2025. After commissioning, it will be able to transmit nearly 40 billion kWh of electricity to Central China each year, playing an important role in ensuring reliable power supply. At the same time, it can replace more than 17 million tons of coal burned each year, significantly increasing the proportion of green electricity in Central China. This will help achieve optimal allocation of power resources over a wider range, and will help implement the national energy strategy and advance the energy transition.
