Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission published the "2025 Departmental Budget of the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission" on its official website, explicitly including the "Shenzhen-Zhuhai Link Preliminary Study (Research on Cross-Pearl River Estuary Traffic Demand and Link Layout Adaptability)" in its expenditure budget.

In addition, the 2025 Shenzhen Transport Work Conference also revealed that Shenzhen will vigorously advance the preliminary work of the Shenzhen-Zhuhai Link this year.

The Shenzhen-Zhuhai Link, also known as the "Lingdingyang Link," starts in Qianhai, Shenzhen in the east, crosses the Pearl River Estuary, and ends in Zhuhai High-Tech Zone in the west. It is located between the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, approximately 12 kilometers from the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link and approximately 20 kilometers from the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge,and is one of the Pearl River Estuary cross-river links planned and constructed in Guangdong.

The Shenzhen-Zhuhai Link has a total length of approximately 80 kilometers and is planned as a road-rail composite link,combining the functions of high-speed rail, intercity railway, and expressway，and is the first cross-sea road-rail dual-use link in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area。

Shenzhen-Zhuhai High-Speed Rail SectionThe line starts at Xili Station in Shenzhen, crosses Lingdingyang to Zhuhai, and sets up Zhuhai North Station in the Beiwei area of Zhuhai High-Tech Zone, extending westward to Zhuhai Central Station (Hezhou). The total length of the line is approximately 80.7 kilometers, with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour.

Shenzhen-Zhuhai Intercity Railway SectionThe line starts at Qianhai Station in Shenzhen, sets up a station in the Houhuan area of Zhuhai, and connects through with the Zhudou Intercity Railway and the Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Railway. The total length of the line is approximately 40 kilometers, with a design speed of 200 kilometers per hour.

The Shenzhen-Zhuhai Link project has long attracted widespread attention. Since 2024, Shenzhen and Zhuhai have been making every effort to advance the implementation of the project, and the specific details and advancement plans have gradually become clear.

At present, the Shenzhen-Zhuhai Link has been incorporated into the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Intercity Railway Construction Plan," the "Outline of the Guangdong Provincial Comprehensive Multi-Dimensional Transport Network Plan," and the "Guangdong Provincial Expressway Network Plan (2020-2035)." Shenzhen and Zhuhai have respectively initiated the preparation of planning schemes for the connecting lines on both sides of the Lingdingyang Link and have reserved the necessary space.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, which opened to traffic in 2024, has opened up a golden corridor for longitudinal connections within the inner bay of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Next, the planning and construction of the Shenzhen-Zhuhai Link willfurther strengthen Shenzhen's radiating influence on the west bank of the Pearl River and at the same time achieve rapid direct connection between the two poles of Shenzhen-Hong Kong and Zhuhai-Macao in the Greater Bay Area.

As a road-rail composite cross-river link, the Shenzhen-Zhuhai Link will fill the structural gap in the existing transport network of the Pearl River Estuary, complement the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, and improve the cross-river link system between the east and west banks of the Pearl River. The planned Shenzhen-Zhuhai Intercity Railway within the link isexpected to achieve a 30-minute direct trip from Shenzhen to Zhuhaifurther promoting the construction of the "Shenzhen metropolitan area on rails," and Shenzhen's status as a transport hub in the Greater Bay Area will be further strengthened.

In terms of economic radiating power, by connecting Shenzhen's scientific and technological innovation resources with the manufacturing base on the west bank of the Pearl River, an industrial collaboration model of"Shenzhen R&D + Zhuhai Manufacturing"will be formed in the future, accelerating the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and the integration of industrial chains in the Greater Bay Area, and accelerating the formation of the Golden Inner Bay's "1-hour economic circle."
