Recently, PowerChina Chengdu Engineering Corporation signed the Unit 4 replacement project for the 240 MW Golovnaya Hydropower Station in Tajikistan. This marks another contribution by Chengdu Engineering and Sinohydro Bureau 16 to Tajikistan's energy development under an internal consortium model, building on their high-quality completion of the Golovnaya Hydropower Station technical renovation EPC general contracting project.

The 240 MW Golovnaya Hydropower Station is a core hub of Tajikistan's "North-South Power Corridor." It currently has six generating units, and its annual power output covers 15% of the country's electricity demand. During the earlier project execution phase, the consortium of Chengdu Engineering and Sinohydro Bureau 16 completed the upgrade and renovation of five units six months ahead of schedule. In July 2024, the Golovnaya technical renovation project was handed over for operation, ensuring power supply in southern Tajikistan and receiving commendation from the President of Tajikistan.

As a milestone project in China-Tajikistan energy cooperation, this signing will further enhance PowerChina's influence in the Central Asian power market. Once completed, the project will create synergies with the existing renovated units and comprehensively improve the stability of Tajikistan's power grid.
