On March 16, the morning mist over the Yanshan foothills was thin. As the on-site chief commander's "lower the gate" order cut through the valley, the gate of the lower reservoir of the Hebei Yixian Pumped Storage Power Station slowly descended, and gurgling water rushed out through the diversion tunnel. With this, the lower reservoir of the power station officially began impounding water, laying the foundation for the first unit to generate electricity within the year.

The Yixian Pumped Storage Power Station is located in Yixian County, Baoding City, Hebei Province. It is a Class I large (1) type project, and its main structures consist of the upper reservoir, water conveyance system, underground powerhouse and switch station, and lower reservoir. The power station is equipped with four vertical-shaft single-stage mixed-flow reversible pump-turbines, each with a unit capacity of 300,000 kilowatts and a total installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts. The catchment area above the dam site of the lower reservoir is 9.5 square kilometers; the normal storage level is 271.00 meters, and the dead water level is 245.00 meters. The storage capacity below the normal storage level is 9.122 million cubic meters, including 8.085 million cubic meters of regulating storage and 1.036 million cubic meters of dead storage.

On January 17, the impoundment acceptance meeting for the lower reservoir project of the Hebei Yixian Pumped Storage Power Station was held and the project passed acceptance smoothly. On January 22, the water collection shaft of the power station's tailrace gate was successfully capped. On March 16, the lower reservoir officially began impounding water by lowering the gate. Throughout the entire construction process, the project department, through a scientific and efficient management system, exercised strict control over every stage from project planning, design, and construction to acceptance, ensuring the smooth progress and high-quality completion of the project.

After the Hebei Yixian Pumped Storage Power Station is fully completed, its power supply area will be the Southern Hebei Power Grid. In the system, it will undertake tasks such as peak shaving, valley filling, frequency regulation, phase modulation, and emergency accident reserve, and will play an important role in improving the peak-shaving capacity of the Southern Hebei Power Grid, optimizing the power source structure, and supporting the construction of the smart grid in the Xiong'an New Area.
