The Jinan Huanggang Road Yellow River Crossing Tunnel starts from Lanxiang Middle Road in the south and passes under the Yellow River to connect with the G309 interchange under construction, with a total length of about 5,755 meters, of which the shield-driven section is about 3,290 meters long, and the shield machine has an excavation diameter of 17.5 meters.

Beneath the Yellow River water area section lies a silty clay stratum, mixed with large amounts ofcalcareous concretionsof high hardness. The shield machine is like traveling through a sticky rice cake mixed with "date pits," which can easily cause various problems such as tool wear, mud cake formation on the cutterhead, and pump blockage, greatly affecting excavation efficiency.

To ensure the smooth passage of the shield machine, the construction team repeatedly invited internal and external experts to conduct equipment assessments, combined with fine dynamic simulation and data analysis of the shield tunneling, to strictly control the shield construction parameters.

Up to now, the shield machine has successfully passed through multiple risk sources including the sedimentation tank of a Class I water source protection area, setting a new world record for 17-meter-class shield construction with a monthly excavation of 426 meters; the completed tunnel is impermeable and leak-free, solid inside and beautiful outside.

The Jinan Huanggang Road Yellow River Crossing Tunnel is a major livelihood project implementing Jinan's "river-embracing development" strategy. Once completed, it will help achieve interconnectivity between Jinan's main urban area and the Jinan Start-up Area for Conversion of Old and New Growth Drivers, and strongly advance the comprehensive acceleration of the Start-up Area's construction.
