As a new type of concrete material composed of raw materials such as cement, fine aggregate, fly ash, silica fume, and special additives, UHPC

features high strength, low density, and excellent durability, with a compressive strength reaching 120 MPa.

This enables it to handle heavy loads with ease in high-pressure environments, providing indestructible support for key parts of large structures. Using UHPC allows building components to achieve lighter, thinner, and more durable designs while possessing outstanding load-bearing capacity and seismic performance, and is therefore widely used in bridge structures such as suspension bridges and cable-stayed bridges.

It is understood that, as an important extension of the functional design of the new UHPC material, LUHPC reduces bulk density by 15%-20% compared with UHPC of the same strength and greatly reduces shrinkage strain, providing a brand-new option for the lightweight design of new bridge structures and the repair and reinforcement of existing bridge structures.

Its strength reaches as high as 140 MPa, equivalent to bearing 14,000 tons per square meter. Conventional precast bridge decks mostly adopt high-grade ordinary concrete schemes, while the compressive strength of LUHPC is 2 to 3 times that of C50 concrete, which can significantly improve the load-bearing capacity of bridge decks.

"Another major advantage of LUHPC is that it is light, weighing only 2,150 kilograms per cubic meter."

This characteristic makes lightweight high-performance concrete an ideal choice for engineering fields such as high-rise buildings, long-span bridges, and urban overpasses.

Application examples include: the south bank of the Wuhan Shuangliu Yangtze River Bridge completed the erection of all side-span box girders, adopting for the first time a double-width steel-lightweight ultra-high performance concrete (LUHPC) composite girder design; the bridge deck panels are first prefabricated with LUHPC in the factory and then combined with steel girders to form composite girder segments. After the segments are erected, through cast-in-place construction of reserved notches and wet joints, a composite girder is finally formed like "building blocks."
