Geotechnical engineering investigation plays an important role in improving the economic benefits of a project. In engineering construction, whether a safety accident occurs or there is a design irrationality, both will bring negative impacts on the construction of the project and reduce its economic benefits.

On the one hand,safety accidents and unreasonable design will cause serious delays in the construction period, making it impossible for the project to be completed on schedule, thereby reducing the economic benefits of the project.

On the other hand,the results of geotechnical engineering investigation are the basis for various decisions in engineering construction. Only by ensuring the scientific nature of the results can correct references be provided for decisions on materials, technology, mechanical equipment, personnel arrangement, and other aspects of engineering construction, thereby determining the scale of various investments.

If geotechnical engineering investigation is not implemented properly, it is very likely to lead to unreasonable investment and cause losses in economic benefits.

Existing practical problems

Many years ago, China's investigation units had already been transformed into enterprises, and investigation units need to be responsible for their own profits and losses and face pressure to be profitable.

After a relatively long period of development, although China's geotechnical investigation market has been improved to a certain extent, there are still many non-standard phenomena.

In order to maximize profits, some geotechnical engineering investigation units have relaxed management during the investigation process, causing the quality of geotechnical engineering investigation to decline to varying degrees.

The main manifestations are as follows:First, there is a lack of a standardized geotechnical engineering investigation outline.As a programmatic document in geotechnical engineering investigation, the outline is of great significance to the conduct of investigation work and the construction of deep foundation pit projects.

However, some investigation units do not prepare the investigation outline in accordance with regulations when implementing geotechnical engineering investigation projects. Although some have prepared an investigation outline, it is based on the requirements of engineering geological investigation and has little guiding significance for the geotechnical engineering investigation of deep foundation pit projects, also bringing adverse effects on the investigation results.

Second, the investigation workload is insufficient.In order to obtain more economic benefits, some investigation units often reduce the investigation workload, and certain items in the investigation are not done or are done less, affecting the final effect of geotechnical engineering investigation.

In order to rush for speed, the drilling and sampling process was not carried out strictly in accordance with regulations,2~3monly lifting the drill once. In order to reduce the workload, the stratification positions in the investigation are inaccurate, so that special geological phenomena in deep foundation pit projects may be ignored.

During sampling, due to cutting corners, no sampler was used; instead, undisturbed soil samples were taken directly from the core barrel, or even directly fabricated, all of which have brought negative impacts on the effect of geotechnical engineering investigation and thus brought hidden dangers to the construction quality of deep foundation pit projects.

Third, the investigation report is not standardized.In the preparation of the investigation report, there are problems such as inaccurate expression of content, incomplete and erroneous selection of geological parameters, and emphasis on conclusions while neglecting recommendations in the report.
