Since early January, the Semarang area of Indonesia has been repeatedly hit by torrential rain, causing a sudden rise in seawater, widespread flooding and severe waterlogging. The Indonesia Semarang Expressway Project undertaken by PowerChina (hereinafter referred to as the Semarang Project) is located in a coastal industrial park. Affected by both torrential rain and tides, seawater intrusion has been severe, with multiple embankments breached, water surging in the park, houses submerged, infrastructure damaged, and residents' lives and property under serious threat.

In response to the disaster, the project department promptly established a flood-fighting and emergency-rescue command center, and fully supported Indonesia's disaster relief through good deeds such as relocating and resettling affected residents, donating supplies, conducting village free clinics, and repairing roads.

The employees of the Semarang Project Department braved hardships and dangers, stood firm on the flood-fighting front line, and worked closely with the local Indonesian government and rescue agencies to carry out rescue operations efficiently and in an orderly manner. Sri Wulan Village, where the project department is located, is one of the worst-hit areas in Semarang City. Before the flood struck, the project department urgently relocated 78 trapped residents of Sri Wulan Village safely to the project department camp and provided free food, accommodation and daily necessities. At the same time, it purchased purified water, rice, cooking oil and other supplies to assist about 200 affected people nearby. In view of the spread of disease after the disaster, the project department also purchased 500 boxes of medicines and organized medical teams to conduct roving free clinics and spread knowledge of epidemic prevention to avoid the occurrence of infectious diseases.

During the disaster, floods submerged villages and washed out local roads. While completing its own emergency rescue and disaster relief, the project dispatched a 25-person disaster relief team carrying 11 sets of large machinery and equipment, including loaders, dump trucks, excavators and water pumps, to help nearby villages repair roads and divert floodwater. After days of emergency repairs, 30 kilometers of flood-damaged roads in 4 villages were successfully opened up, ensuring the smooth flow of disaster relief routes. The project department also arranged 24-hour patrols to voluntarily inspect surrounding dangerous areas and promptly help local disaster victims get out of danger.

Muhammad, the village head of Sri Wulan Village, was deeply moved when he saw the busy figures of the Semarang Project disaster relief team: "Thank you, PowerChina, for providing food and accommodation to the affected villagers and repairing our roads. Thank you to those who helped us in this difficult time."

Lu Lei, head of the Semarang Project, said that since the beginning of construction, the Semarang Expressway Project has long attached importance to serving the local people, proactively fulfilled its social responsibilities, and actively carried out public welfare activities. It is a typical project witnessing friendly China-Indonesia cooperation. The Semarang Project team will give full play to its advantages, resolutely ensure that roads near the project remain open during the disaster, maintain this precious rescue and escape route for the Indonesian people, and at the same time do everything possible to support local flood-fighting and emergency rescue and disaster relief, helping local people protect their homes.
