On December 22, the 8th Expanded Standing Council Meeting and Supervisory Board Meeting of the 9th Session of the Jiangsu Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering was held in Nanjing, hosted by the Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute. Nearly 50 people attended the meeting, including Professor Liu Songyu, Chairman of the Society; Professor Shao Guojian, Chairman of the Supervisory Board; Professor Yan Changhong, Executive Vice Chairman; Senior Researcher Yan Tingcheng, Executive Vice Chairman; Professor Wang Yuan, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General; as well as other vice chairmen, supervisors, standing council members, and heads of branch organizations. Staff of the Secretariat attended as non-voting participants. Professor Wang Yuan presided over the meeting.

Professor Liu Songyu, Head of the Society's Party Building Work Leading Group and Chairman of the Society, delivered a keynote report entitled "Study and Implement the Spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee," leading the attendees in studying the spirit of the plenary session.

Professor Zhang Dingwen, Executive Deputy Secretary-General, reported on the Society's 2024 work summary and 2025 work plan. Professor Yan Changhong, Executive Vice Chairman, announced the review results of the "2024 Jiangsu Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering Science and Technology Award." Senior Researcher Yan Tingcheng, Executive Vice Chairman, explained changes in council member units of the 9th Council, including the First Geological Brigade of the Jiangsu Provincial Geological Bureau and the Jiangsu Nanjing Geological Engineering Survey Institute. The Standing Council deliberated and voted to approve the above matters.

Participating experts engaged in thorough discussion and exchange on the Society's work, offering many valuable suggestions on geological science popularization, academic exchanges, young talent cultivation, and cooperation between the Society and enterprises. Professor Shao Guojian, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, congratulated the meeting on its successful convening and noted that the Society achieved rich results in 2024, further improved its organizational development, and greatly enhanced its influence through science and technology award reviews and academic conferences. He suggested that the Secretariat promptly formulate the 2025 work plan, deploy and allocate tasks, and carry out work in an orderly manner. He also emphasized that in 2024 the Supervisory Board actively participated in the Society's work in accordance with relevant provisions of the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology and the Society's constitution, supervising and urging the Society to operate in a standardized manner. He expressed the hope that in 2025, with the joint efforts of council members and the broader membership, the Society's work will reach a new level.

Chairman Professor Liu Songyu delivered concluding remarks and expressed sincere gratitude for the strong support of the host, the Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute. Chairman Liu Songyu noted that the Society's work in 2024 deserved recognition, but efforts were still needed in offering suggestions and recommendations to the Party and government and in participating in major engineering projects. He noted that the development of the Society's professional committees was uneven and that the capacity for increasing revenue and reducing expenditure needed improvement. He expressed the hope that in 2025 the Society would focus on "four services and one strengthening" and make new progress in Party building leadership, talent cultivation, academic exchanges, science popularization activities, and technical training. He required the Secretariat and all professional committees to focus on major national strategies and development needs, formulate the 2025 annual work plan and the "15th Five-Year" development plan in accordance with relevant requirements of the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology and national societies and in light of the Society's actual conditions. Finally, Chairman Liu Songyu stated that the Society should earnestly solve difficulties for enterprises and members, and expressed the hope that council members and members would continue to support the Society's work in the new year and jointly promote its high-quality development.
