On January 16 local time, the rotor of the first unit of the Moragolla Hydropower Station in Sri Lanka, constructed by Sinohydro Bureau 14 Co., Ltd., was hoisted into place, presenting a generous gift for the New Year.

To ensure the safe and efficient completion of this hoisting task, the project team conducted bilingual (English and Chinese) briefings for construction personnel in batches and by section in advance, and organized detailed and comprehensive inspections of key equipment such as the bridge crane, brakes, and lifting rigging, making full preparations for safe hoisting. At 2:18 p.m., the No. 1 unit rotor, weighing about 55 tons and measuring 3,710 mm in diameter, was slowly lifted. During the hoisting process, command signals were clear and instructions were precise; on-site operators and supervising personnel worked closely together, strictly controlling every step. At 3:32 p.m., the No. 1 unit rotor was accurately positioned in place.

The Moragolla Hydropower Station in Sri Lanka is located in the upper reaches of the Mahaweli River, the largest river in Sri Lanka, about 130 kilometers from the capital, Colombo. It includes two 15 MW Francis turbine-generator units and one 360 kW Francis ecological unit. Once completed, the station will be able to meet the electricity demand of nearly 200,000 local people and effectively alleviate Sri Lanka's power shortage problem.
