Recently, the Saudi Bisha 500 MW/2000 MWh electrochemical energy storage project—the largest single-unit electrochemical energy storage project among completed projects worldwide and one in whose design Hubei Engineering Company participated—was commissioned and put into power transmission. It will inject strong momentum into Saudi Arabia's economic and social development and holds important demonstrative significance for energy cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Bisha 500 MW/2000 MWh electrochemical energy storage project is the largest single-unit electrochemical energy storage project among completed projects in the world today, and holds important demonstrative significance for energy cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia under the Belt and Road Initiative. The project will provide key support for Saudi Arabia's energy transition and offer highly valuable practical examples and innovative ideas for global energy cooperation and sustainable development.

Once completed, the project can provide local flexible peak-shaving services for electrical power, improve energy utilization efficiency, effectively promote the consumption of renewable energy, and, in conjunction with wind, solar and other new energy power generation methods, balance their volatility and intermittency, thereby supporting the stable operation and sustainable development of Saudi Arabia's power grid.

The project is located in Bisha Fort, an important town on the southern border of Saudi Arabia about 160 kilometers from the Red Sea, with a Phase I construction scale of 500 MW/2000 MWh. During project construction, the project department team overcame numerous difficulties such as sandstorms and high temperatures in the desert region, united their efforts, took proactive action, carried forward the spirit of the Power Construction Iron Army, and ultimately successfully achieved the project commissioning target.
