On January 13, the headworks project of the Xuancheng Reservoir in Qiandongnan, Guizhou—a major national water conservancy project undertaken by Sinohydro Bureau 9 Co., Ltd. under Power Construction Corporation of China—officially broke ground, marking the project's full entry into the construction phase.
The Xuancheng Reservoir project is one of the controlling hub projects included in the national 14th Five-Year Plan for Water Security, and is a major water conservancy project listed in the Opinions of the State Council on Supporting Guizhou in Forging a New Path in the Large-Scale Development of the Western Region in the New Era. It is a flood-control controlling project in the Yuanjiang River basin and a backbone livelihood project for water supply. It is located on the main stream of the Qingshui River in the upper reaches of the Yuanjiang River in Majiang County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. The construction content includes two parts: the headworks project and the water supply and irrigation project, with a total storage capacity of 124 million cubic meters and an average annual water supply of 83.36 million cubic meters.
Sinohydro Bureau 9 is mainly responsible for the construction tasks of the headworks project and the water conveyance main canal project of the Xuancheng Reservoir project. The construction content of the headworks project launched this time (including the water supply and irrigation main pipe) includes building works, pipeline installation works, procurement of electromechanical equipment and procurement and installation of fire protection, HVAC, water supply and drainage for the management building and station, and water supply and drainage equipment for the power station, as well as temporary works, protective fill-raising works, environmental protection and soil and water conservation works within the corresponding construction scope.
The tasks of the Xuancheng Reservoir project are mainly flood control and water supply, combined with irrigation and power generation. After completion and commissioning, it can, in conjunction with downstream river channel improvement and levee construction, comprehensively improve the flood control capacity of the old urban area of Kaili City and the new urban area of Kaili-Majiang, and safeguard the lives and property of downstream residents. It can also effectively solve the production and domestic water use problems of 832,000 people in the three districts of the "Kaili-Majiang" central urban area and surrounding rural areas, as well as 64,900 mu of contiguous irrigation districts, playing an important role in promoting the sustainable economic and social development of ethnic minority areas, advancing regional rural revitalization, and improving the ecological environment.
