Recently, Shennong Xiaolu in the Optics Valley Science Island within the Wuhan New City Central Area was completed and opened to traffic, marking that the road network system composed of 18 roads on the Optics Valley Science Island has been connected into a ring, further improving the regional transportation infrastructure functions. The subsequent supporting projects will be officially put into use after completion in the near future.

Wuhan New City Shennong Xiaolu

Shennong Xiaolu is located on the southeast side of Optics Valley Science Island, starting from Shennong Road in the west and ending at Science Island East Road in the east, with a total route length of 605 meters and a planned red line width of 15 meters.

The main construction contents of the project include land, roads, traffic, water supply and drainage, reclaimed water, lighting foundations, greening, electric power and telecommunications, etc. The project is an important micro-circulation branch road in the area. On the north and south sides are respectively the Deep Geotechnical Engineering Disturbance Simulation project and the Shennong Facility project. After completion, it will accelerate the high-standard construction of these two major scientific installations.

The project started construction in September 2022. All participating parties worked together to overcome difficulties such as land acquisition, demolition and relocation, and harsh construction conditions, and achieved full-line connection on December 30, 2024.

Wu Yuanguo, project leader of the Wuhan New City project of China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Urban Investment and Operation Company, said that Shennong Xiaolu connects east and west and is an important micro-circulation branch road on Optics Valley Science Island. It adopts the latest urban stormwater management concepts and will play a positive role in promoting Wuhan's sponge city construction and regional economic development.
