On January 10, 2025, in order to thoroughly implement the spirit of the National Education Conference, advance the construction of the National Excellence Engineer College, and accelerate the cultivation of a large number of outstanding engineering talents, the Second Dean's Meeting of Excellence Engineer Colleges and the Seminar on Excellence Engineer Training and Certification Standards was held in Hangzhou. He Jian, Executive Dean of our university's Excellence Engineer College, and others attended the meeting and delivered exchange speeches.

    This meeting was hosted by the China Excellence Engineer Training Consortium and organized by Zhejiang University. Attendees included Hao Tongliang, Deputy Director of the Department of Degree Management and Graduate Education of the Ministry of Education and Deputy Director of the Office of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council; Qi Yanwei, Deputy Director of the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education; Chen Feng, Deputy Director of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education; Jin Qi, Deputy Director of the Talent Office of the Organization Department of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee; Zhao Weisheng, Secretary-General of the China Excellence Engineer Training Consortium; Zhu Hui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University; as well as relevant responsible comrades from the Department of Degree Management and Graduate Education and the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education, responsible comrades and college representatives of National Excellence Engineer Colleges across the country, heads of relevant departments of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education, and heads of relevant functional departments of Zhejiang University. The meeting was chaired by Zhao Weisheng.

    Hao Tongliang held exchanges and discussions with the attendees and delivered a concluding speech. He stated that the Party Group of the Ministry of Education regards the reform of excellence engineer training as a major political task, and has persistently promoted the reconstruction of the excellence engineer training system, process reengineering, capability reshaping, and evaluation rebuilding. Building the National Excellence Engineer College is of great significance and has raised higher requirements for advancing education reform, talent training model reform, and institutional system reform. He pointed out that in the follow-up, the excellence engineer training and certification standards system should be further improved; universities and enterprises should implement degree conferral standards, focus on the graduation, employment, and continuing training of the first cohort of pilot engineering master's and doctoral students, continuously iterate experience, create models, promote models, and persistently drive the paradigm shift in professional degree graduate training.

    At the meeting, Qi Yanwei introduced the development and use of core courses in key fields, as well as considerations for key work such as engineering case development; Zhao Weisheng introduced the situation of establishing a special task force under the leadership of the Department of Degree Management and Graduate Education of the Ministry of Education to develop excellence engineer training and certification standards, interpreted the training and certification standards, and proposed follow-up work plans.

  He Jian spoke from three aspects: the construction status of our university's National Excellence Engineer College, the problems faced and next-step considerations, and opinions and suggestions on the excellence engineer training and certification standards. Guided by serving the national "dual carbon" strategy and the needs of energy transition and energy security, the college is committed to cultivating high-quality, high-level, interdisciplinary and composite reserve excellence engineers who master solid and broad foundational theories and systematic and in-depth specialized knowledge in the energy and power field and are adept at solving complex engineering technical problems and "bottleneck" problems. The college will closely focus on enterprise needs, promote in-depth cooperation between the university and enterprises in multiple fields such as talent training, scientific research tackling, technological innovation, and achievement transformation through high-quality team building, create a "four co-construction and four connectivity" mechanism, fully unleash the effectiveness of enterprises in the talent training process, and build a high-level independent talent training system. In the future, the college will continue to use "new ideas, new education, and new ecology" to be a practitioner in cultivating reserve excellence engineers for energy and power, and strive to create a model room for excellence engineering talent training.

  At this meeting, representatives of 32 National Excellence Engineer Colleges and 8 central state-owned enterprises across the country spoke in turn and held heated discussions, actively offering suggestions for the reform of excellence engineer training, effectively promoting the exchange of experience in the construction of National Excellence Engineer Colleges, and laying a solid foundation for promoting the establishment of an excellence engineer training and certification system with Chinese characteristics and world standards.
