Recently, the experimental building of the Zhejiang University Centrifugal Hypergravity and Interdisciplinary Experiment Facility (CHIEF), a major national science and technology infrastructure project undertaken by the Sinohydro Bureau 11 Co., Ltd., was officially delivered for use.
As one of the 10 major national science and technology infrastructure projects prioritized for construction during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the Zhejiang University Centrifugal Hypergravity and Interdisciplinary Experiment Facility project is located in the Future Sci-Tech City, Yuhang District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. It consists of the Centrifugal Hypergravity Simulation and Experiment Building and the Hypergravity Research Building, with a total floor area of 34,560 square meters, of which the above-ground total floor area is 22,956.82 square meters and the underground total floor area is 11,603.18 square meters. The building height is 25.3 meters.
The hypergravity experiment building undertaken by Sinohydro Bureau 11 Co., Ltd. has a total floor area of 32,463.13 square meters. The building has a floor plan in a "丰"-shaped (character for "abundant") structure, with the central part being the core main equipment hall, the east and west auxiliary halls respectively used for placing auxiliary equipment for six experiment chambers, the northern part being the precision testing area, and the southern part being the research and exchange area.
During the project construction process, the project department always aimed to build a national quality project, strengthened overall coordination, optimized construction organization, and continuously carried out technical research to ensure efficient progress. Facing challenges such as the tight schedule of civil works and steel reticulated shell construction and the cross-operation of multiple disciplines, the project department adopted a "three-dimensional + planar" cross-operation approach, scientifically arranged construction, and achieved orderly connection. Breakthroughs were made in deep foundation pit excavation, centrifuge foundation pouring, large-span steel reticulated shells, and various forms of combined curtain walls. The excavation depth of the deep foundation pit reached 38.3 meters, setting a record for the depth of public building foundation pits in Zhejiang Province; innovations were achieved in the temperature control of the centrifuge equipment foundation and the construction technology of underground structures, demonstrating the core technical capabilities of the project team.
The delivery and use of the experiment building this time provides a solid foundation for the subsequent equipment commissioning and operation of the Hangzhou hypergravity field. After the project is fully completed, it will become the multidisciplinary hypergravity experimental facility with the largest capacity and the strongest experimental capability in the world, providing an advanced experimental platform for the implementation of major national science and technology tasks and the research and development and verification of new technologies for major projects, and injecting new vitality into promoting scientific and technological innovation and regional economic development.
