Recently, the Quanzhou Beigao Main Canal Function Adjustment Water Diversion Project (hereinafter referred to as the "Beiti Project"), constructed by Quanzhou Raw Water Operation Co., Ltd., has achieved breakthrough progress. The "Citong" TBM (hard rock tunnel boring machine), introduced for the first time in Fujian Province's water conservancy engineering industry, has successfully surpassed the 1,000-meter mark, laying a solid foundation for subsequent stable construction.

According to reports, the Beiti Project will divert water from the Jinji Sluice Gate on the Jinjiang River and transport it to the Luoyang River through a newly built closed tunnel. The length of the water conveyance tunnel constructed using TBM equipment reaches 10.97 kilometers. Faced with challenges such as long-distance hard rock tunneling, complex geology including fault fracture zones, and possible sudden geological disasters, Raw Water Company established a scientific research task force composed of all participating parties at the project construction frontline, implementing precise measures and overcoming difficulties, steering the "Citong" TBM through obstacles. In less than two months, it successfully completed the 1,000-meter tunneling task and achieved a best single-day advance of 45 meters. "Traditional blasting can only advance 4-5 meters per working face per day on average, while construction using TBM equipment is nearly 9 times faster than traditional blasting excavation," said Mr. Lin, a relevant person in charge of Quanzhou Raw Water Operation Co., Ltd.
As an important component of the overall plan for the water system joint drainage and dispatch planning in Quanzhou's central urban area, the Beiti Project plays a major role in meeting the medium- and long-term water demand of northern Quanzhou, ensuring water supply security for regional large-scale industrial development, optimizing the city's water resource allocation pattern, and alleviating the insufficient water supply of the Luoyang River.
