On December 21, the main step-down substation of the Zambia mining project was successfully connected to the external power grid, and the main construction of the power transmission and transformation works and the ore processing plant was completed simultaneously, marking the project's formal entry into the load-bearing joint commissioning stage prior to copper mine production.
The Zambia mining project is the first overseas full-stage contracted hydrometallurgical copper mine construction project undertaken by Sinohydro Bureau 11, covering the construction of the ore processing plant, steel structure installation, procurement and installation of mechanical and electrical equipment, and the construction of off-site transmission lines and substations. Its tailings pond covers a total area of 1.15 million square meters, with a total dam construction volume of 1.98 million cubic meters, making it the largest tailings dam currently built by Sinohydro Bureau 11. In addition, the large complete sets of ore processing equipment, such as the coal-fired steam boiler and the wet semi-autogenous mill, were all independently installed, accumulating valuable experience for the company's development in the mining construction field and holding extremely important driving significance for expanding into the African mining construction market in the future.
During the process, in response to the project's characteristics of large engineering volume, wide work fronts and short construction period, the project department actively optimized the plan, clarified the construction objectives and tasks at each stage, strengthened the organization and management and safety management of the construction process, and rationally allocated resources, effectively improving the construction efficiency of each link. To ensure orderly and efficient coordinated construction of the various workshops of the ore processing plant, the project promptly brought in experienced practitioners and experts in coal-fired boilers to provide on-site guidance, successfully ensuring the on-schedule completion of complete sets of equipment such as the ball mill.
The Zambia mining project is located 15 kilometers northeast of Chingola, Zambia, within the Zambia-DRC copper belt, the world's largest sedimentary copper deposit belt. The project's construction content mainly includes the procurement, transportation and installation of permanent mechanical and electrical equipment for the copper mine, as well as civil construction of the entire site. After the project reaches full production, annual pure copper output is expected to reach 20,000 tons, which is of great significance for promoting Zambia's mining industry and economic development.
