Recently, the 600 MW salt-solar complementary project in Tushan, Laizhou, Shandong, undertaken by the Central South Survey, Design and Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as "Central South Institute"), successfully achieved full-capacity grid-connected power generation. The project is not only the largest single photovoltaic project in Shandong Province's 2022 market-oriented competitive allocation, but also, through the novel composite industrial model of "salt-solar complementation," has established a benchmark demonstration project of "multiple uses of one land parcel."
As the EPC general contractor, the Central South Institute demonstrated outstanding capabilities and professional technical standards throughout project planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning. Upon completion, the project is expected to provide the grid with 1.004 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, injecting strong momentum into the local green energy transition.
The project adopted advanced bifacial double-glass photovoltaic module technology. This innovative application enables the brine, under sunlight, to reflect light onto the back of the modules, additionally increasing power generation efficiency by more than 2% to 3%. At the same time, the thermal effect of the photovoltaic modules not only raises the temperature of the salt ponds, which is conducive to brine concentration, but also achieves a complementary win-win between salt production and photovoltaic power generation. In addition, the thermal effect of the photovoltaic modules creates a natural growing environment for brine shrimp in the brine ponds within the salt fields, providing high-quality biological feed for aquaculture and further expanding the project's comprehensive benefits. In terms of construction design, the project fully considered the subsequent use of the salt ponds and environmental protection, and strengthened protection measures for the salt ponds. After construction was completed, anti-seepage repairs were carried out on the enclosing dams and pipe pile foundations of the salt ponds to ensure the salt fields are durable over time. In terms of equipment and material selection, highly corrosion-resistant equipment and materials were used to ensure that the photovoltaic power generation equipment is not affected by brine or airborne salt spray. These measures not only ensure the long-term stable operation of the project but also provide strong support for subsequent operation and maintenance.
