At the 2024 National Manufacturing Power Construction Expert Forum and the First Industrial Foundation Innovation and Development Conference held in Shanghai recently, Zhou Ji, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the National Manufacturing Power Construction Strategy Advisory Committee, called for strengthening industrial foundation capabilities, implementing the industrial foundation reconstruction project, and winning the tough battle of upgrading the industrial foundation.
Strengthening the industrial foundation is the basis for realizing new industrialization and building a manufacturing power. Academician Zhou Ji stated that the most critical problem of China's manufacturing being large but not strong lies in the industrial foundation being large but not strong. Whether it is the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, the cultivation and development of emerging industries, or the forward-looking layout of future industries, the industrial foundation is their main support. The key to China's manufacturing growing from large to strong is that the industrial foundation must grow from large to strong.
Academician Zhou Ji stated that since the founding of New China, China's industrial foundation development has achieved tremendous historic accomplishments, but China's industrial foundation is still a weak link in advancing the manufacturing power strategy and faces severe challenges. Under the current complex international situation, the industrial foundation is the cornerstone for building an independent, controllable industrial chain and supply chain. It is necessary to coordinate both industrial development and security and establish a modern industrial system with development resilience and guaranteed development security.
"For technological innovation, its main battlefield is the innovative development of advanced manufacturing, especially the innovative development of the industrial foundation." Academician Zhou Ji explained that countries around the world all devote their main energy in technological innovation to the innovative development of advanced manufacturing, especially to the innovative development of industrial foundation products and technologies.
