Recently, the total filling volume of the Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station dam, which was planned, demonstrated, and surveyed and designed at all stages by PowerChina Chengdu Engineering Corporation, reached 29 million cubic meters. The core wall was filled to an elevation of 2,375.5 meters, and the rockfill zone was filled to a maximum elevation of 2,388.5 meters, completing the annual target one month ahead of schedule and laying the foundation for impoundment and power generation from the first unit.

The Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station is a controlling reservoir project on the main stream of the Dadu River, located at the junction of Ma'erkang City and Jinchuan County in Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It features the world's highest dam, an extremely large filling volume, an underground cavern group under extremely high in-situ stress, high water head, high slopes, severe cold, and deep foundation pits. In response to the lag in dam stone material quarry exploitation progress and exploitation intensity below planning expectations due to various complex factors, the design team proposed making full use of excavated rock slag for dam filling. In addition, in view of the new situation of excessive fine particle content in the blasted material from the Hekou quarry, the team proposed the approach of "zoned exploitation, zoned appraisal, and zoned utilization," optimized and adjusted the dam structural zoning, and strengthened quality control of dam filling materials, greatly improving the utilization rate and supply capacity of exploited stone materials.

As the world's highest dam under construction and among those already built, the Shuangjiangkou Dam has a maximum dam height of 315 meters, a total filling volume of more than 46 million cubic meters, and a total installed capacity of 2 million kilowatts. The hydropower station complex consists of a river-blocking dam, water diversion and power generation system, flood discharge structures, and other components. Its development task is mainly power generation, while participating in flood control in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and promoting local economic and social development. After the station is completed, it can increase the average dry-season output of downstream cascade hydropower stations by 1.76 million kilowatts and dry-season electricity generation by 6.6 billion kilowatt-hours, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 7.18 million tons per year. It is of great significance for improving the power source structure of Sichuan's power system, raising the flood control standards of towns in the basin, and promoting coordinated regional economic development.
