On December 11, at the Qingzhou IV offshore wind farm in Yangjiang, Guangdong, approximately 70 kilometers offshore and in water about 45 meters deep, the "Mingyang Tiancheng" — the world's largest single-unit-capacity floating wind power platform, constructed by Guizhou Engineering Company — was officially put into operation.
This project is the world's first to mount two 8.3 MW offshore wind turbines on a single floating foundation, with a total installed capacity of 16.6 MW, a rotor top height of 219 meters, and a maximum airborne width of approximately 369 meters, making it the world's largest single-unit-capacity dual-rotor floating wind turbine. Guizhou Engineering Company was responsible for the trial unit's foundation semi-submersible platform towing, berthing and mooring line handling, pontoon cement fixed ballast waterborne pouring, wind turbine hoisting, dock testing, as well as the complete floating wind turbine generator set towing, mooring system installation, offshore positioning and installation, and related commissioning and testing work.
The "Mingyang Tiancheng" is comparable in height to the Eiffel Tower. During construction, Guizhou Engineering Company, with extraordinary professional strength and outstanding response capabilities, successfully overcame multiple difficulties including heavy tasks, tight schedules, enormous construction challenges, and harsh environments, completing each major construction milestone of the project with high standards, strict requirements, and high quality and efficiency: In March this year, the floating wind turbine foundation of the "Mingyang Tiancheng" completed launching and berthing; on July 3, the hoisting of the two wind turbines was completed; on August 13, the platform was towed to the wind farm positioning point; on September 2, assistance was provided to complete the turbine ballast submergence work; on September 16, anchor leg tensioning was completed; and on September 28, it passed the acceptance inspection. At this point, all construction tasks of the project were successfully completed, accumulating valuable experience for the company in the field of deep-sea floating offshore wind power construction.
After the project is put into operation, it is expected to provide approximately 54 million kWh of green electricity annually, which can meet the annual daily electricity demand of 30,000 three-person households.
