On November 30, in order to implement the spirit of the university's 14th Party Congress, strengthen organized scientific research, and advance the two-way efforts of "0→1" and "1→0", the School of Computer Science held a seminar on fundamental problems in major engineering under "1→0" in the Second Meeting Room of the International Conference Center on the Youyi Campus. More than 40 participants attended the seminar, including Hu Linping, Director of AVIC Xi'an Aeronautical Computing Technique Research Institute; Chen Lei, Vice President of the Ninth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation; Zhong Xingwang, Deputy Chief Designer of the Xi'an Branch of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation's Fifth Academy; Zhou Guochang, Secretary of the General Department of the Xi'an Branch of the China Academy of Space Technology; Wang Jingwen, Vice President of Platform Company; Yu Zhiwen, Vice President of Harbin Engineering University; Song Xiaogang, Vice Dean of the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Xi'an University of Technology, and other leaders from institutes and academies, as well as more than 40 people including the school's leadership team and academic discipline team leaders. The seminar was chaired by Li Chunke, Party Secretary of the School of Computer Science.

At the meeting, Professor Wang Peng, on behalf of the school's "1→0" project team, first reported on the latest progress and next steps of the research on fundamental problems in major engineering under "1→0" since the project was established by the university.

Next, several leaders, chief designers, and alumni who attended the meeting spoke one after another, sharing their understanding and thoughts on "1→0" research and the needs regarding common fundamental scientific problems encountered in major engineering practice, and offered valuable opinions and suggestions. For example, Hu Linping emphasized that in the process of transforming engineering problems into scientific problems, long-term, multi-contact cooperation, exchange, and joint research between universities and enterprises should be strengthened. Zhong Xingwang, combining research on data transmission volume in the remote sensing field and the development of trusted aerospace constrained control software, pointed out that disturbances and errors arising in engineering projects should be specifically analyzed, as these are all potential "1→0" major engineering scientific problems. Wang Jingwen, Vice President of Platform Company, took large language models as an entry point and emphasized that universities need to find a balance between "1→0" and "0→1" in scientific and technological innovation, and that there should be no rush for quick results on "1→0" engineering problems. Yu Zhiwen pointed out that "0→1", "1→0", and "1→100" complement each other. On the basis of producing "0→1", a new track of "1→0" should be opened up. First, engineering problems should be refined into scientific problems from a disciplinary perspective; second, the essential fundamental problems should be traced back from phenomenon-level problem "1"; third, "1→0" problems should be sought from failures and problems that defy common sense.

Subsequently, the participants engaged in lively discussion and connection, frequently interjecting, exchanging ideas, and inspiring one another. Everyone agreed that the core of "1→0" is to "get to the bottom of things" and dig deep into the phenomena and problems that arise in engineering. It is necessary to connect closely with major institutes and academies, conduct repeated discussions, and sort out and select "real problems" of "1→0" from engineering practice. When solving "0", one must be willing to "sit on the cold bench", consider cross-domain issues, and pay attention to multi-dimensional system optimization, and so on.

Finally, Shang Xuequn summarized the seminar. She emphasized that to do "1→0" well, one also needs the ability of "0→1". The two support each other, make two-way efforts, and develop collaboratively. Only by tracing back to the source can the true mechanisms be dug out, thereby breaking through the fundamental scientific problems in major needs and contributing computing strength to achieving scientific and technological self-reliance and solving "bottleneck" problems.
