From December 6 to 8, the Guangdong Transportation Infrastructure High-Quality Development Forum and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Transportation Infrastructure Innovation Summit (hereinafter referred to as the "Conference") was held at South China University of Technology.
With the theme of "New Guangdong, Great Transportation, New Quality Transformation," the Conference brought together major national transportation authorities, enterprises and institutions, senior experts and scholars, and industry elites to focus on cutting-edge processes and technologies in the transportation field as well as future industry development trends, and to discuss how Guangdong's transportation infrastructure can, under the guidance of new quality productive forces, continue to advance on a new journey toward high-quality development and jointly draw a new blueprint for Guangdong's transportation development.

Promoting the Building of a Strong Transportation Province
The Conference featured main activities including the main forum, thematic salons, observation and exchange on key transportation projects in Guangdong, and an exhibition of engineering maps of Guangdong's 21 cities.
Li Zheng, Vice President of South China University of Technology, stated that transportation is essential to national rejuvenation and the foundation of a strong nation, and that transportation must lead the way in driving coordinated regional development. The civil engineering and transportation disciplines of South China University of Technology have undertaken a number of major national scientific research projects and have made outstanding contributions to infrastructure construction and economic and social development in the country and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Lu Changhe, President of the Guangdong Provincial Transportation Association, stated that this forum aims to promote the building of a strong transportation province, strengthen exchanges on innovative practices in infrastructure construction in Guangdong Province, and enhance higher-level connectivity and opening-up in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It is a high-end platform for exchanging ideas and sparking wisdom, and a valuable opportunity to showcase achievements and jointly seek development.
Lao Chaohui, Second-Level Inspector of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Transportation, stated that Guangdong is one of the regions in China with the highest degree of openness and the strongest economic vitality, and that the "hard connectivity" of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is advancing toward deeper-level integration. This year, the province's highway, railway, port and shipping, rail transit, and civil aviation construction all achieved excellent results. He hopes to gather wisdom from all parties to jointly discuss innovative and coordinated development to strengthen connectivity in the transportation infrastructure sector, and to inject new vitality and momentum into the transportation construction of Guangdong Province and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Hu Chichun, Director of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Transportation Infrastructure Innovation Joint Laboratory and Professor at South China University of Technology, stated that since its establishment, the Joint Laboratory has continuously promoted the transformation of scientific research achievements into momentum for transportation development through technological innovation and practical application. In the future, the laboratory will continue to be driven by scientific and technological innovation, take serving society as its mission, persist in developing toward "new" directions and scaling "quality" peaks, and help advance the high-quality development of transportation infrastructure.
Reducing Logistics Costs Can Unleash Huge Economic Benefits

Huang Qifan
Huang Qifan, Executive Vice Chairman of the Academic Committee of the China National Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy and former Mayor of Chongqing, delivered a speech titled "Focusing on New Quality Productive Forces to Promote High-Quality Development of Infrastructure Construction in Guangdong Province." He pointed out that high-quality development is the core requirement for China's economy to move toward modernization, and that it is crucial to promote the transformation of productive forces from resource-intensive to total-factor productivity. As resource consumption and the size of the population and labor force decline, the mode of economic development must be transformed. The development of new quality productive forces covers five major sectors and gives rise to fifteen main tracks; its core is innovation, and efforts must be made in five aspects to form high-value-added end products. Finally, he proposed that reducing logistics costs can unleash huge economic benefits, including reducing source volumes, building an integrated distribution network, optimizing the organization of industrial chains, and having the transportation sector apply the thinking of new quality productive forces to promote high-quality development of transportation infrastructure through digitalization and other means.

Zhou Wei
Zhou Wei, former Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Transport, delivered a keynote speech titled "Promoting High-Quality Development of Highway Construction through Digital Transformation." Focusing on vigorously developing new quality productive forces in transportation, he elaborated on the significance of digital transformation in transportation, the objectives and tasks of digital transformation in highways, and related issues, and, using the reconstruction and expansion of expressways in urban agglomeration areas as an example, emphasized the importance of promoting high-quality development of highway construction through digital transformation and specific measures.

Han Enhou
Han Enhou, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor at South China University of Technology, delivered a keynote speech titled "Corrosion Service Safety and Durability of Transportation Infrastructure." He pointed out that practical technologies such as corrosion control coating technology and repair technology, corrosion monitoring/inspection technology, and high-safety long-life grounding systems are expected to improve the service safety and durability of transportation infrastructure and extend its service life.
