On November 28, the 10th Tunnelling Engineering Annual Conference of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association, known as the "Oscars" of the global tunnelling industry, was held in Genoa, Italy, where major tunnel and underground space projects from around the world competed for annual awards including the Project of the Year and the Beyond Engineering Award. After review and defense sessions, the green metro construction technology for the complex coastal geological environment of Qingdao Metro Line 6 Phase I stood out among numerous global projects and successfully won the "Beyond Engineering Award," becoming the only project in China to receive this award this year.

In April this year, at the 2024 World Tunnel Congress (WTC2024) held in Shenzhen, the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA) selected the "50 Iconic Projects in the Global Tunnel and Underground Engineering Field," and the Second Jiaozhou Bay Subsea Tunnel project, invested in and constructed by Qingdao Conson Group, was selected.
In December 2020, the ITA Tunnelling Awards 2020 were announced. The research achievement of the geotechnical engineering team of Shandong University, led academically by Li Shucai, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering—"An Innovative Automated Geological Forward-prospecting Technique Mounted on Hard-rock TBM"—won the only ITA 2020 Technical Innovation Award. The team developed an automated advanced geological forecasting technology mounted on full-face hard-rock tunnel boring machines, solving the challenge of detecting adverse geological bodies such as water-bearing bodies and faults ahead of TBM construction, and forming a systematic achievement of "theoretical methods - key technologies - independent equipment - engineering application." It has been successfully applied in more than 30 TBM-constructed tunnels, providing strong support for the safe construction of tunnel and underground space projects.

The International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA) was founded in 1974 and brings together 78 member countries. It is an international academic organization specializing in tunnels and underground engineering and one of the most influential academic organizations in the world. The ITA Tunnelling Awards aim to recognize outstanding projects and individuals that bring breakthroughs and innovation to the development of tunnels and underground space. The award is also widely recognized as the "Oscars" of the global tunnelling industry and has broad and far-reaching international influence.
Qingdao Metro Line 6 Phase I is the first domestic metro line to apply "active support technology" on a large scale in mined stations. In its award citation, the ITA introduced: "Qingdao Metro Line 6 Phase I is a demonstration project approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, with a total length of 30.8 kilometers, 21 underground stations and about 25 kilometers of running tunnels. The project successfully developed and promoted a series of prefabricated construction technologies for urban rail transit and is currently the metro line in China with the largest application scale of such technologies. The stations adopt a fair-faced concrete simplified finishing process, and the public area decoration design effectively combines functionality and artistry, strongly promoting the green and low-carbon transformation and upgrading of Qingdao metro construction. In addition, all production and installation processes have been localized, driving an industrial scale of 1.3 billion yuan."
The Second Jiaozhou Bay Subsea Tunnel project, as a super project with the longest length, largest construction scale and highest comprehensive construction difficulty in the field of subsea road tunnels in the world, has overcome world-class challenges through scientific research and innovation, including ventilation and disaster prevention in ultra-long tunnels, large-section tunnels crossing large-scale faults, offshore connection of super-large-diameter shield and drill-and-blast tunnels, and super-large-diameter shields withstanding ultra-high water pressure.
